    1. STRIBLING, Pharris Matthew; GA,USA; 1901-1950
    2. G. M. Lupo
    3. STRIBLING, Pharris Matthew; GA,USA; 1901-1950 I am looking to correspond with anyone who may have information on my grandfather, Pharris Matthew STRIBLING, son of Charles A. STRIBLING and Emily (FLANIGAN) STRIBLING. He was born in Lincolnton, GA around February of 1901 and died in Atlanta, GA July 8, 1950. He was a linotype operator by trade and worked at a number of newspapers throughout the country between 1920 and 1950, including the Braxton County Democrat (Sutton, WV), the Dallas Morning News (Dallas, TX), and the Atlanta Journal (Atlanta, GA). I do not have a great deal of info on him or where else he lived as he traveled a lot and did not leave much of a paper trail. Most of those in my family who knew him died long before I became interested in genealogy. What I do know of him: He married (1) Edith Irene PEACOCK in Volusia County, FL on March 11, 1922. What I've heard via the family is that she taught him how to do linotype and was a piano teacher and was older than he was, but I do not know how much older she was. They could not have been married more than five or six years, as he remarried in 1929. It has been rumored in my family that they had a son, but I've never been able to confirm this. (2) On March 8, 1929, he married my grandmother Freda Teresa JUERGENS in Sutton (Braxton County) WV. My grandmother once stated that they had to wait to get married because he was not yet divorced from his first wife. At the time, he was working for the Braxton County Democrat, and apparently traveled elsewhere to visit his first wife prior to their divorce. I do not know if she lived in West Virginia, or if he was traveling elsewhere. My grandmother stated that she used to call my grandfather Phil, so he may have used this nickname elsewhere. My grandparents divorced in December of 1933 and had only one child, my mother, Emily Mae STRIBLING. My grandmother died in 1993. >From 1933 until the late 40s, I do not know where he was living or working. One of my cousins stated that while he and his family were living in North Carolina, my grandfather used to visit them. This was probably in the vicinity of Forest City, NC, as that's where this family was living at the time of my grandfather's death. At the time, my cousin stated, my grandfather was dating or married to a woman named Ann Lois, though he wasn't sure if this was her full name. Sometime in the 40s, my grandfather married (3) Marjorie HARTSFIELD, but I do not know when or where they met or were married. Marjorie died around the time I graduated high school and I only occasionally saw her at family reunions, so we never discussed my grandfather. One thing my mother has told me about her is that Marjorie once worked at one of the Japanese Internment camps during WWII, but I do not know which one or where. While he was married to Marjorie, my grandfather worked at the Dallas Morning News, so they may have married in Texas. My grandfather died at his home on Holderness Street in Atlanta during a family gathering on July 8, 1950. At the time he was a linotype operator for the Atlanta Journal. His obituary states he worked there for two years prior to his death, so I assume he was there between 1948 and 1950. Pharris Matthew STRIBLING, 1901-1950 Approximate times for his employment: Braxton County Democrat 1928-1933 Dallas Morning News prior to 1948 Atlanta Journal 1948-1950 Known wives: Edith Irene PEACOCK Freda Teresa JUERGENS Marjorie HARTSFIELD Possible nickname: Phil Stribling I would appreciate hearing from anyone who may have information on him, or who could provide clues as to where to look for him. Any info appreciated. Matt Lupo hamlet@lupo.com -- G. M. Lupo: hamlet@lupo.com P.O. Box 161963, Atlanta, GA 30321-1963 http://www.lupo.net/ | http://www.hamlet.org/

    3. ROSS Fred Alfred; NY,USA; 1869 I am trying to find out about the place of birth and parents of Fred Alfred Ross. We think that he was born in Plattsburgh, NY. His date of birth is known to be March 7, 1869. Fred Ross' father disappeared when he was very young. There was a story that the father moved to Montana and started another family. Fred and his mother then lived with a Mr. Bopp who supposidly came from Boston. As a child Fred was a well known roller-skating champion in and around Montreal, Quebec. Fred later worked at the Windsor Hotel Barber Shop. Please, contact me if you have come across Fred. A. Ross or his parents. Thanks Bryan Hillier Toronto, Ontario, Canada bryan.hillier@utoronto.ca

    2. Mark Underhill
    3. LAWSON / HERMON; NY,USA > ON,CAN; c. 1780 I am researching data on Margaret Lawson, who married T. Hermon probably late 1700's. T. Hermon died, probably in the American Revolution; they had a son, Henry, born 1770, most likely in the Mohawk valley in upper NY state [possibly Orange County ?]. Margaret married again to Frederick Swartfager, a soldier with the King's Royal Regiment of New York, and moved to Ameliasburgh, Prince Edward County, Upper Canada - probably in the 1780's or 90's. Margaret married a third time to a Mr. Johnston and lived at Thurlow near Belleville Ont. and reputedly lived to the age of 106. The Lawson family [presumably Margaret's parents] moved [from USA] to Murray Township in Northumberland County. Any information re LAWSON, HERMON or SWARTFAGER before they moved to Canada would be very gratefully received. -- Mark Underhill Mark Underhill <markunderhill@home.com>
