    2. Karl H. Becker
    3. Hello, Tammi: I appreciate your faith in me, but I do not think I can help you a lot. Maybe this bit of historic information may steer you in the right direction: In the famous battle at WATERLOO back in 1815 NAPOLEON was defeated by two armies. 1) The English/Dutch army under ARTHUR WELLESLEY, DUKE of WELLINGTON, and 2) The Prussians (also called the Silesian Army) under Field Marshal GEBHARD LEBERECHT VON BLUECHER, PRINCE of WAHLSTATT. (His German nickname was Marschall "Vorwaerts" [Marshal "Forward"]). He was born in 1742 and died in 1819 on his estate at WAHLSTATT. WAHLSTATT is a small community of around 1000 people (1939 count) and is located in NIEDERSCHLESIEN, southeast of LIEGNITZ. Since 1945 it has been under Polish jurisdiction. Its Polish name is LEGNICKIE POLE, and it is located in powiat LEGNICA in SILESIA. (Powiat means district or "Kreis"). The Polish name for LIEGNITZ is LEGNICA. To make a short story long, Tammi, it is possible that your ancestors are from SILESIA, and the VON BLUECHER surname (plus the title PRINCE [or DUKE] of WAHLSTATT) indicates nobility. Field Marshal VON BLUECHER was a very famous German, and any real good encyclopedia or history book should be able to tell you more about him. If there is such a thing as a research/mailing list on SCHLESIEN (SILESIA) you may want to consider joining it! Good Luck! 3. MCCLELLAN; Cumb.,ENG; 1750- I'm researching McCLELLANs who settled in Whitehaven, Cumberland, ENG in about 1750. They are a very complicated line as they seemed to lack imagination in naming and almost all were called David, Thomas, William, Ann or Mary, until the late 19th century; and, many of them married Sarah's and Eliz's and Ann's. There seem to be 2 or 3 David's producing children about the same time. I've established a tentative framework. I'm missing a couple of births, those of my g-g grfather-Thomas and my grandfather (William) Creighton and his sister Catherine? in 1870-80. I think these last two may have been born in Ireland as their father was at Trinity College, Dublin. Any McCLELLANs (or anyone researching them) from this particular line please get in touch. I know that there are thousands of other McCLELLANs around, but I'm not going back to Kirkcudbright quite yet! Sally (McClellan) Wain, robin@wain51.freeserve.co.uk

    3. HOLT; ENG > ON,CAN; 1872-1885 I am pasting a copy of a message which I sent to another correspondent. "I am trying to trace any information at all, about the journey to, and stay in Canada of my maternal great grandparents, the HOLTs. I would particularly like the approximate date of their arrival, as this would help trace the shipping line and vessel. Also place of residence in Mitchell. Here's what I know already. Thomas HOLT and his wife Martha (nee) HOWES had five children: Joseph bp. 30 Jul 1865 Waddesdon, BKM, ENG Sarah Ann bn. 18 Dec 1864 Westcott, BKM, ENG Rebecca bn. 22 Apr 1872 Grendon Underwood, BKM, ENG (my grandmother) Mary Elizabeth Howes bn. 25 Nov 1874 Mitchell, ONT, Canada (known as Aunt Polly) Thomas bn. 28 May 1878 place not yet known. I have a recollection of a conversation with Rebecca, during which she recalled seeing Niagara Falls as a child, and a very hazy one stating that she was 'about 12' when the family returned to England. I would be most interested to learn what Thomas snr. did while in Mitchell, and why they chose to return. The possible dates of absence from England seem likely to be within 23 Apr 1872 and 1885. Thomas snr. was variously described as aglab/master butcher. I have a postcard of Mitchell, given to me by Aunt Polly's daughter, who is still alive, alert and well, aged 87." Hope this may help you to help me! Thanks for the offer. -- John Sullivan John Sullivan <jvs@tidewatchers.demon.co.uk>

    3. Re: BROUILLETTE, Alfred Benoit; USA; 1863 I can help. He was my granfather, my mother was a BROUILLETTE, the 13th child. Alfred's father was Benoit T. Brouillette, born 28 March 1838. He married Domelise DUPUY in 1862, then Anaise Dupuy in 1868. He was a veteran of the Civil War, (although he did not see combat according to what my mother remembers he told them when she was a child). Alfred's mother was Domelise DUPUY. Benoit T. Brouillette was the (7th child) son of Jean Baptiste BROUILLETTE born 29 Aug 1745 in Vincennes, IN, married first to Rosalie GASPARD on 01 Jan 1821 then on 18 May 1826 to Brigitte DUPUIS. He died in Avoyelles Parish in 09 Jul 1845. If you wan't to go back further, check out the Avoyelles Parish web site. My family tree is posted on the site There also is a booklet on the BROUILLETTE family "Brouillette to Louisiana and Much Before" by Walter J. SAUCIER. David, I hope this information was of help to you. If I can do more, please let me know. david decapua wrote: > BROUILLETTE, Alfred Benoit; USA; 1863 > > Can somebody please help me locate the names of the parents of Alfred > Benoit Brouillette?
