    1. SAMUELSON-WYLIE Lauri; Southport ENG; 1880

    3. SAMUELSON-WYLIE Lauri; Southport ENG; 1880 The well-known variety player and writer Lauri WYLIE was born Morris or Laurence Samuelson on 25 May 1880 in Southport. This is, of course, a problem. The GRO doesn't do Southport. The story gopes that the registers were destroyed in a fire, so no-one from those years registered in Southport exists in legality. But Lauri is there with papa and brother Julian in the 1881 census. For once, its not a birth I'm chasing here, its a death. Whatever happened to Lauri Wylie??? I know he married Rosa Rosetti (b Italy) .. I know he was still around in 1948... and then? Anyone know? Thanks That's enough for today. The published transcript of the will of John Carlele 1390 may be found in 'Testamenta Eboracensia or Wills Registered at York', volume 4 of the Surtees Society. In volume IX of the Yorkshire Archaeological & Topographical Association (YATA) there may be found the transcripts of the wills of: Randall Carleill Francis Carleil Thomas Carleill These wills are circa 17th century. 3. SLEPICKA / HRUSKA / SACK / CECH; Illinois,USA; 1866- Michael SLEPICKA, married to Anna HRUSKA, in Chicago, Illinois, August 1879, St. John Nepomucene Roman Catholic Church, parents of nine children, all born in Minneapolis, Minnesota 1884-1902. Martin HRUSKA, age 62, married to Mary HRUSKA, age 50, parents of Anna, Martin, John and Barbara. Joseph SACK, age 23, husband of Mary HRUSKA, age 25, parents of at least one son, Joseph Sack, born May 1880. Maria CECH, possibly a midwife, possibly related to the above people, single godparent to Slepicka infant who died in first week of life in 1882, Chicago, Illinois. Slepicka and Hruska families are Bohemian immigrants to Chicago, Illinois, abt. 1866. Joseph Sack is believed to have been born in Germany and worked as a laborer. He is identified as a laborer in 1880, his in-laws and their children reside with Joseph and his wife and child. Male members of these families involved in wood-molding and machinist work in both Chicago and Minneapolis. Barbara HRUSKA, age 14, born in America, was already listed as a tailor in the 1880 Chicago Census, her brother, John, age 16, born in Bohemia, is an apprentice machinist in the same census. All live at 2713 Portland Avenue, Chicago. Seek connections to Slepicka and Hruska families who remained in Chicago after Michael and Anna Slepicka moved to Minneapolis, Minnesota (1883-4). Families are known to have used variations of their Bohemian surnames: Slepicka > Slepica > Chicken (loose translation of Slepicka (hen)). The Minnesota line descending from Michael and Anna Slepicka uses the name Slepica. Hruska > Hruskova > Pear > Peary (literal translation of Hruska/Hruskova) Any information welcome. Will share. 3. ANDERSON Arthur; ENG; 1942 Hello. Its me again. With another helping of Lost Theatricals.. I drew a total blank with my last batch. here's hoping for better lukc with this one. Let's start with ARTHUR [A?] ANDERSON He wrote the songwords for a lot of popular songs in the early decades of the century, but he seems to have utterly disappeared thereafter. All I have managed to discover, from the performing rights society is that 'he died in 1942'. THE GRO registers show Arthur Andersons of a sufficient age signing off in the Don Valley (aged 62), Biggleswade (76), and Anglesey (64). Plus lots more with middle initials, or too young.. Is there anyone Anderson (which just happens, similarly, to be my grandma's name) out there who's collecting the royalties for songs such as 'Somewhere in France with You" written by his or her granddad?
