    1. KENNA; WIC,IRL / DUB,IRL; 1867-

    3. KENNA; WIC,IRL / DUB,IRL; 1867- I'm looking for information on family history. So far I've only got a very sketchy background. Here goes.... Grandfather was John Patrick Kenna, born in Phila, PA, USA (married Josephine Ward, from Mallahyde (sp?), Ireland). My grandfather had one sister, Mary V. Kenna, who never married. Great Grandfather was John Charles Kenna, born about 1867 in the Dublin/Wicklow area (I think). I have the name of the town of Baltinglass, but I don't know how that fits into the picture as yet. He emigrated to the US sometime before 1884 where he got married in Phila. PA to Catherine V. Kelly). My g-grandfather was a Butler to a family in Dublin for about 7 years and then the family moved to London, England and he went with the family before coming to America. He continued to be a butler in America and later purchased his own pub. John Charles Kenna had 2 brothers that I know of...James H Kenna (emigrated to Phila., PA, USA) and Patrick Kenna who remained in Ireland near Dublin. There may have been more brothers and sisters; I don't know. I don't know the age relation of the three and who was the eldest. Patrick was married 2xs and had children from both marriages...I'm aware of Thomas, Dennis and Andrew. I believe his second wife had a maiden name of Lemeon (sp?). The last known address of Patrick was in the year 1887 at #4 Corn Market, Dublin. My uncle has been over to Ireland and went to the address but it has since been torn down and a road put in it's place. We also have a letter that was my g-Aunt Mary's. She was corresponding with an Alice Lawless. There was also an Alice Farrell who was married to the station master at Fox Rock Station. My g-aunt would make references to cousins in Ireland and wrote to this Alice person. I don't know if Alice Farrell/Lawless is one and the same person or two separate, but somehow the Kenna name is tied to these women. Some of the convicts to Australia records show some Kennas who were living in the Wicklow/Dublin area. It's possible they could fall into the family tree as the grandfathers of these men. There was a James Kenna from Wicklow county convicted in 1849 for sheep steeling and he was discharged in 1855. No age is listed yet it's possible for him to fit into the equation somehow. There is another James Kenna from Dublin City convicted in 1838 of burglary and felony when he was 18 and sentenced to 10 years. There is also a Patrick Kenna of Wicklow who was convicted of (egad!) rape and sentenced to "death com transportation 7 yrs. com 18 mths impt" in 1841 when he was 32 yo. There is a note on his record that the "convict's name struck through from Register." Ironically, the 1890 census records in both the US and Ireland have burned so it may be difficult to get any further information by documentation.. My dad and uncle are traveling back to Ireland in October and are hoping to search archives so any leads would be helpful. Thanks in advance. Susan (Kenna) DiIorio Momdio <[email protected]>

    3. COTTER,George; COR,IRL; 1783-1835 Hi everyone I am searching for information in county Cork for the families of Captain George Sackville COTTER, his wife Jane CROFTS, and his sister Isabella COTTER. They left Ireland in 1836 from Mallow, co Cork, for Ontario, Canada. George was born about 1783 and fought at the battle of Waterloo in 1815. He may be the youngest son of James Laurence COTTER, and he may have two sisters Henrietta COTTER and Anne Laurence COTTER. I need some evidence to connect these people. Re: BOEKENKAMP; DEU; 1836- On 23 Sep 1999 11:01:19 GMT, Herma Gumpert <[email protected]> wrote: Herma, Please realise that is better to use the correct name for your country (and mine): the Netherlands. For others who do not know that: 'Holland' is only the western part of it, around Amsterdam and Rotterdam. There are just two provinces with that name: North and South Holland. Calling the Netherlands 'Holland' is equivalent to calling everyone in the USA a "New Yorker' or everyone in Germany a Bavarian. Such a thing is a 'pars pro toto' (the part is used instead of the whole). So 'Holland' and Germany are not close together ;-) Some hundreds of years ago, there were only dialects, which varied slightly from place to place. There were no official 'Dutch' or 'German' languages as we know them now. 'Boekenkamp' sounds like an old East-Netherlands name to me, or possibly a West-German one. I suppose that the part 'boeken' was pronounced as the Dutch word 'beuken', which means in english: 'beech tree'. Then 'kamp'. In the east of the Netherlands 'kamp' meant a piece of farmland, used for crops (not a meadow). The word is still used in many dialects. So I think, "Boekenkamp' means a piece of land (partly) surrouded by beech trees. In the east of the Netherlands, some centuries ago farmland was surrounded by fences or bushes (Dutch: houtwallen) to protect the crops from cattle. To the contrary, the meadows had no fences and cattle was garded by shepherds and little children. Probably, the Boekenkamp family started out by building a house on or right next to farmland with beech trees around it. Frans. [email protected] (Frans L. Scholten)

    3. MORGAN Hoyt; Scyamore, GA,USA; c. 1900 Years ago I found and old family portrait in the attic of a house from which I was moving after living their about 20 years. In the picture were two adults and eight children, four sons and four daughters. On the back of the picture was written in pencil, "Mrs. Hoyt Morgan, Sycamore, GA, Route 3, CB/14x2D." It is mounted on "picture board", and some of the edges have been cut or damaged, and although the picture itself is scratched, it none-the-less clearly portrays the family group, and quite a handsome looking group it is. If anyone knows of this family or is a part of it, contact me, so I can arrange for the picture's return. <[email protected]>

    3. ROSECRANS / HINES; NY,USA; 1816-1862 Can anyone help me find the parents of Franklin Rosecrans. He is my 3rd great grandfather. He was born January 28, 1816 possibly in Little Falls, Herkimer County, New York or somewhere in St. Lawrence County, New York. He married Frances Hines October 31, 1839 in Ogdensburg, St. Lawrence County, New York. They had 15 children born in New York between 1841 and 1862. One more was born in Ohio in 1864. Frank and Frances spent the rest of their life in Henrietta, Lorain County, Ohio. My main source for Frank's birth and marriage is through the LDS Ancestral File. The contributor has not offered his sources to me. Neither Frank's death record or obit said anything about his parents. The Ohio Gen. Soc. had a biography of one of Frank's children. It also didn't tell me who Frank's parents were. How can I find a marriage or birth record for Frank or birth records for his children? I have found New York to be very difficult to research in.
