    1. NICHOLLS, Thomas Love; Bolton, UK; c. 1870
    2. Earl Blake
    3. NICHOLLS, Thomas Love; Bolton, UK; c. 1870 I am researching NICHOLLS from the Egremont, Whitehaven areas. The information I have to date is very sparse. I would welcome hearing from anyone who is following this family line or who has links into this. I am endeavouring to pick up on the ancestors of the following couple: NICHOLLS,Thomas Love; born c1870 in Egremont/Whitehaven area; died c1931-1940 in Johannesburg, South Africa. (Apparently the name LOVE was his Mothers maiden name). Married Sarah Anne HOLDEN (in Egremont/Whitehaven?). Born c1866; died cJuly 1952 in Johannesburg, South Africa. They had 10 children as follows: MARY ELLEN; JIMMY; GRACIE; ADELAIDE; JENNY; TOMMY; DICK; ELIZABETH; SARAH JANE; JACK. Thomas came out to the mines in South Africa and left his family back home, returning every year or so to see them. The whole family came out to South Africa in c1905. Jimmy apparently ran away from home in Johannesburg when he was about 15 and ended up in the USA where he lived in New York at one time. He and his wife lived in an apartment and their young baby crawled out of the window and was killed. He had a job in Saudi Arabia and came via South Africa sometime between 1942 & 1948 to see his mother. He apparently died on board ship back to America. It was said in family circles that Thomas Love Nicholls "had an oil business" in Egremont in the late 1800's early 1900's and he "gave this to his mother and father" when he came out to the Mines in South Africa in the early 1900's. It is possible he or his parents came from Cornwall. (from the tin mines?) Hoping to hear from someone out there!
