    3. ADAMS, Hiram; ON,CAN > PA,USA >NY,USA; 1815-1865 Our gg grandfather was Albert J. Adams, born 13 SEP 1841 in or near Bloomsburg, Columbia County, Pennsylvania. He was the son of Savilla Knorr of Bloomsburg and Hiram Adams who was born in "Dumardville," Ontario. At least this is what the death certificate for Albert indicates. We have asked around and checked atlases, etc., and failed to locate any place named "Dumardville." However, we have managed to determine that there used to be place called "Drummondville," Ontario. This was eventually annexed by Niagara Falls, and I think the only traces of this community today are the name of Drummondville Road. We think that our Dumardville may actually be Drummonville. Also, in light of the fact that Albert died and was buried in Niagara Falls, New York, just across the big ditch from Niagara Falls, Ontario, this may be a hint that the Drummondville site is ours. Anybody with any Adams ancestors in the Niagara Falls/Drummondville area? If so, would like to hear from you. Regards, Charles "Charles E. Tucker" <[email protected]>

    3. BOLTON, Julia; ON,CAN; 1873-1945 CROWDER, Julia; b. Sandwich, ON, CAN; 1873; d. London, ON, CAN: 1945 (married name). BOLTON, Julia; b. Sandwich, ON, CAN; 1873; d. London, ON, CAN; 1945 (maiden name). Looking for information on the marraige of Julia BOLTON to Robert Hedley CROWDER. The marriage took place in 1894 in the "Northwest" of Canada, according to the birth certificate of my father, Edward Reginald CROWDER. Unfortunately, in 1894 the term "Northwest" referred to a huge area of Canada, much larger than what we today refer to as the Northwest Territories. I am told there was no civil registration of marriages in the region at that time, as well. Mrs. Julia CROWDER, the former Julia BOLTON (no middle name), died on April 5, 1945, at her residence, 28 Elmwood Ave., London, Ontario, Canada, after a long illness. The information below is taken from the obituary published in a London, Ont., newspaper: She was the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Charles BOLTON and was a resident of London (Ontario) for more than 35 years. She was a member of St. James Anglican Church, Westminster. Her husband Robert H. CROWDER, London commercial traveller, predeceased her in 1914. Surviving are one son, Reginald, Toronto; three daughters, Emily and Grace, at home, and Mrs. Alice BUCHANAN, London; four brothers, William BOLTON, Windsor; James BOLTON, Philadelphia; Edmund BOLTON, Hamilton and Charles BOLTON, St. Thomas; four grandchildren, Carol, Robert and Billy BUCHANAN, and Dale CROWDER, all of London. Private funeral services will be held at the residence at 2:30 p.m. followed by a public service at St. James Anglican Church at 3 p.m. on Saturday. Canon T. G. Wallace and Rev. W. J. Eccleston will officiate. Interment will be in Mount Pleasant Cemetery. [End of first obituary text.] In the event that some additional details might generate some leads, I am also providing the 1914 obituary of Robert Hedley CROWDER: Mr. R. H. CROWDER, a well-known traveler, representing Greene, Swift & Co., died at his residence, 28 Elmwood Avenue (London, Ontario, Canada) about 7 o'clock last evening. The deceased had been ill only since Saturday and was not thought to be in serious condition. He was subject to inflammatory rheumatism and was believed to be recovering when his brain suddenly became affected and he died in a few minutes. The late Mr. CROWDER was formerly in business in Wingham, but had resided in London for a number of years. He was a native of Manchester, England. A widow and six children, three boys and three girls, survive. One sister and two brothers, residing in England, also survive. The deceased was a member of the Masonic Order, Oddfellows and the Woodmen of the World. Military records document he deserted. Born 1753-1754. SPOHN Caspar, my ancestor, is said to have been a deserted Hessian soldier also, but no military records can be found with the SPOHN spelling. He was born 1758. I strongly feel, these two soldiers are the same person. My interest is, as to why we have a difference in the spelling of the names, or their meaning! 1. CRAIG Jackson; CA,USA; 1861-1914
    2. JM
    3. CRAIG Jackson; CA,USA; 1861-1914 CRAIG Jackson; CA; 1861-1914 I'm searching for information on one member of my ancestral tree, named Jackson CRAIG. Jackson CRAIG was born in Preble Co., OH, approximately 11/8/1828. His parents were Reason Barkley CRAIG (sometimes went by the name Barkley CRAIG) and Melissa BROTHERTON, who lived in Preble and Darke Counties, OH, and then in Wayne Co., IN. Jackson CRAIG went to California in April, 1851. In 1861 he married Lucy Ann ARTHUR. According to an old letter written by him in 1891, he mentions that his son, Charles Edward CRAIG, was born on New Year's Eve (Dec 31), 1862. His wife died in 1874. I found the couple on the 1870 Santa Clara Co, CA, census, just as I expected. What I did not expect was to discover that there was a young girl named Alice, aged 13, who was apparently a daughter! I suspect she was Lucy Ann's daughter from a former marriage, since she would have been born around 1857. According to that 1870 census, Lucy Ann and her daughter, Alice, were both born in Missouri. After finding the marriage record for Jackson CRAIG and Lucy Ann ARTHUR in Santa Clara Co, CA, I started "browsing" through the microfilm and guess what: there is a record of Lucy Ann MOODY marrying John H. ARTHUR on Aug 12, 1860 (less than six months before marrying Jackson CRAIG)! That marriage lists Lucy Ann as being from Missouri, so I think these must be the same lady. She was listed as age 23 on both marriage records. Interestingly, in the 1870 census listing Jackson CRAIG and Lucy Ann, their neighbors are John MOODY, aged 66, born in Kentucky; and Mary MOODY, aged 73, born in Virginia. Were they parents of Lucy Ann's first husband? Perhaps Lucy Ann and Alice traveled with them from Missouri to California. Since Alice was born around 1857 and was born in Missouri, I suspect that Lucy Ann was married before that year, in Missouri. I am guessing that her husband's name was MOODY, so I still don't know what her maiden name was. There is a brief reference to other kin in Jackson CRAIG's pension papers many years later. In those papers it refers to a niece as next of kin, Mrs. Eva DISSY, who lived in California. I believe this niece must have been a niece of his wife's, as I don't know of any other CRAIGs in that line who made it out to California in that time period. Jackson CRAIG's letter goes on to say: "I went into the Army of the Union in the Rebellion; the California troops met the Rebs in Arizona and New Mexico and drove them back into Texas -- we had the Indians as well as the Rebs." He served in the Army between Oct, 1864, and Nov, 1865. I know from his pension papers that his wife was living while he was in the Army, and that he was released and worked for the Western Union Telegraph Company sometime around 1871, about 3 years before his wife died. Jackson CRAIG worked as a carpenter for at least 30 years in California. He spent a brief amount of time (1889-1895) in the Veteran's Home in Yountville, CA. He was discharged voluntarily. Later he ended up in the National Soldier's Home in Los Angeles, and I believe he lived there from about 1900 to 1914, when he died. He is buried at the Sawtelle Cemetery which I believe is now known as the L.A. National Cemetery, in Los Angeles, CA. Does anyone recognize any of these individuals? I have so far been unable to find any references to these individuals in the records (still searching), and would be delighted if anyone has information to share. Thanks in advance, Joan -- Email: [email protected]

    3. TAYLOR, Mary Elizabeth; OH,USA>IL,USA; 1877-1901 TAYLOR, Mary Elizabeth; OH>IL; 1877-1901 I am seeking information on Mary Elizabeth TAYLOR. Father: Marion R. TAYLOR (born in Ohio?) Mother: Ella TAYLOR (born in Ohio?) She was born circa 1877 (apparently in Ohio according to the 1900 census), and died April, 1901, in the area of Springfield, IL. She had one sister, Jessie (sp?), who was born circa 1880 and also died circa 1901-1902, presumably in the Springfield area. Mary Elizabeth WALKER (nee TAYLOR) is buried in the Springfield Cemetery, but apparently none of her relatives are buried near her. Elizabeth was married to Sidney John WALKER and they resided in Springfield in 1901 when she died. Elizabeth had one child, Elizabeth ("Lizzie") Irene WALKER, born January, 1895. When Elizabeth died the little girl was taken to the Sisters of Mercy orphanage in Springfield. When Jessie died, leaving two young boys, the little boys (surname unknown) were also taken to Sisters of Mercy. Shortly thereafter, the boys were taken to live with relatives (whereabouts and names unknown), and "Lizzie" was taken to her maternal grandmother, Ella TAYLOR. The 1900 census of Sidney WALKER and his family (Mary Elizabeth and their daughter, Lizzie) indicates that Mary Elizabeth's parents, Marion and Ella TAYLOR, were born in Ohio. I don't know if that census is correct, but it is all I have to go on at this point. After a short while the small boys and Lizzie were taken out of the orphanage. Lizzie was taken to live with her grandmother, Ella TAYLOR, and the two small boys went to homes of other relatives (names and places unknown). So far I have not found the TAYLORs listed, and am looking for any information to help me further. I don't know where they were in 1901, or if Ella TAYLOR was possibly widowed at that time. I do know that Ella TAYLOR only lived about a year after she took her small granddaughter to live with her. If you have any information on this TAYLOR line please contact me. Thank very much, Joan -- Email: [email protected]

Fielding") on Jan 15, 1824, Preble Co, OH. I think that Fielding THOMPSON may have had some connection to a man named Providence THOMPSON, but am unsure on this point. I think she was born around 1797-1798. I have an old letter written by her nephew, Jackson CRAIG, indicating she was 93 years old in 1891. She was living in Richmond Wayne Co), IN, around 1891, and since she was 93 at the time I'm supposing she must have died not too long thereafter. Prudence THOMPSON (nee BROTHERTON) had two daughters, Mary and Clarissa. She also had a granddaughter, named Della AUSTIN. I believe that Mary and Clarissa lived in the vicinity of Richmond, IN (Wayne Co.), or New Paris, OH (Preble Co.), but I do not have details on this. I am trying very hard to find more information on Prudence THOMPSON, including her parents' names, siblings, and descendants.. If anyone has information about the individuals named here, please contact me as I am eager to obtain background information on them! Thanks so much, Joan -- Email: [email protected]

    3. KITCHEN / VAN CAMP Emma; MO,USA; 1861-1935 KITCHEN/VAN CAMP Emma; MO; 1861-1935 I believe that some of my WALKER ancestors lived in the "bootheel" area of Missouri for several years in the latter part of the 1800's. Emma WALKER (b 1861 Stockton MO, d Dexter (Stoddard Co), MO, for several years. Her father was Jesse C. WALKER (b 1828-1829 in Hendricks Co, IN, d 1895 Clay Co, AR). I'm not quite sure about her mother's name, but it may have been Elsa/Elisa/Eliza RANDAL (b 1833 Mississippi Co, MO, d 1868-1882). I believe Emma WALKER was married twice: Clement A. KITCHEN (married on June 7, 1882, in Stoddard Co, MO), and also to a man named VAN CAMP. I'm not sure about the sequence of these marriages, because she was married to Clement KITCHEN in 1882, and she was buried as "Emma KITCHEN" in Hagy Cemetery, Dexter (Stoddard Co), MO, in 1935. What is confusing is that she had at least one son, named Harvey VAN CAMP. From his obituary (dated about 1976) I estimate his birthdate to be sometime around 1895. He died in Lebanon, MO. So far I've been unable to discover any additional information about the individuals named above. They apparently resided in White County, TN for a period of time, later moving to Bardwell (Carlisle Co), KY.
