Robert SAUNDERSON b. circa 1806-7 Knockbride Parish, County Cavan,Ireland, occupation Soldier, [He was 18 when he enlisted as a soldier in the 63rd Regiment of Foot, on May 20th 1825. He listed his occupation as a weaver. He married Mary NIXON who was b ? circa. 1809 [or 1819] Mary d. 17 Nov 1871, Oatlands,Tasmania. Australia. Robert died 19 April 1872, Oatlands, Tasmania. Robert and Mary arrived in Tasmania 15-04-1850 on the "Eliza" As a Military Pensioner,he was a guard on this convict ship, and shortly after took a job as a guard at the female prison Cascades in Tasmania. >From the Tasmanian Archives Records of his arrival it shows that he had a wife and child, A letter from them states that they can't find a report on his wife's arrival. I have no knowledge of this child's name, age, birthplace, or subsequent survival/otherwise. I do not know the year Robert married. 1846 - early 1850 ? There is no mention of a wife in his military papers when he was discharged in 1846.
