POWER, Thomas; Liverpool, LAN,ENG; 1863-1875 Gidday All, I have my ancestor's particulars but need to know his family's whereabouts. He was a Master Mariner, sailing out of Liverpool since 1851, and prior to that Plymouth since 1845. The time span I am actually looking at is 1863 to 1875. He was Master of the Worrall between 1863 and 1868, sailing to Valparaiso, Chile. 1869 he was Master of the Pride of Wales, and may have been trading with Belfast. 1871 he was the Mate of the Istrian, trading in the Mediterranean for the Bibby Line.. 1872 he was the Mate of the Bohemian, also trading in the Mediterranean for the Bibby Line. 1873-1875 he was the mate of the Algeria, sailing to New York for the Cunard Line Whilst he is in Harbour (Liverpool) he must have had an address by which the shipping line could contact him. Therefore if there is any way of obtaining this information I would appreciate the help required to do so. Thanking you for any assistance you can give me. Hooray, Warren in Ballarat, Australia (ex Kiwi). <[email protected]>
GASKELL James; ENG>USA; c. 1860 I have been researching a Gaskell family who emigrated to America from Ashton-in-Makerfield, Lancashire, England about 1858. The father of this family was James aged about 48 & his wife was Cecily. There were several children, including Joseph Gaskell 16, James Gaskell 12, John Gaskell 10, Ellen Gaskell 7, George Gaskell 4, Charles Gaskell 1 & Francis Gaskell under 1. All these ages given as of 1851. Is there any person on this newsgroup researching Gaskell in America who can help me in any way with this family. Regards. Joe "joe patch" <[email protected]>

Re: MIDDLETON Samuel / HURLOR Elizabeth; mar circa 1860 Sheffield,YKS,ENG; 1800-1900 Saw your posting to the newsgroup and thought I might(???!!) have a connection for you. I'm trying to find out about a Catherine Middleton, b1796 at Mallerstang in Westmorland. She married William Metcalfe at Kirkby Stephen on 22 May 1822. Catherine died in 1878 aged 81 and is buried at St. mary's church, Mallerstang. I think it may be possible that your samuel middleton is her nephew (ie Catherine's brother was Samuel's father?) but I have no real evidence for this. Do you know any more about your middletons? I am descended from the Metcalfe side of the family. Please let me know what you find out. Thanks. Re: POWER; Liverpool, LAN,ENG; 1861-1891 - Gidday All, I am looking for my ancestor family between 1868 and 1891.I find them in the Ward of Abercrombie, Liverpool (unable to read the street name/no) in the 1861 Census. I then find the daughter (Norah) married in Toxteth Park (35 Beaumont Street) in the 1881 Census. She married John GARNETT in St Nicholas Church, Liverpool on the 11th February 1871. Then there appears to be no sign of them until the 1891 Census when I find Hiram at 4 Alderson Road, Wavertree with his wife Frances Iarrant FENTON. From this I found her in the 1881 Census at Ledbury, Herefordshire. In particular I am looking for Harry as I do not have a descendant for him. The family is: Thomas POWER (1819 Plymouth) Master Mariner. Elizabeth POWER (1819 Devonport) nee JEFFERY...wife. Thomas Mathew POWER (1843 Plymouth) residing in Valparaiso, Chile by this time. Norah Kathleen POWER (1849 Plymouth). Frederick Earnest POWER (1854 Plymouth). Harry Bailey POWER (1857 Liverpool). Hiram Alfred Jeffery POWER (1858 Liverpool). Both Harry and Hiram were christened on the 9th March 1859 in St Peter's Church, Liverpool. Although my main interest is in Harry I would like to know as much as possible about the others too. Thanking you for any assistance you can give me. Warren in Ballarat, Australia (ex Kiwi). <[email protected]>

HEADY; ENG; 1730 JOHN HEADY, father of the Peter Heady who was born in Litchfield, Connecticut in 1733. John was married to PHOEBE and may have emigrated from England. I am trying to track down who was the ancestor(s) who originally emigrated to America and where they were from. Several possible individuals were in the Latter Day Saints database: John Heady who was christened Jul 26, 1733 in Mentmore, Buckingham, England. His father, Jno, was christened Aug 9, 1730 in Burgh by Sands, Cumberland, Eng. If you surmise that perhaps they weren't christened right when they were born, but as they prepared for a major change like departing for America, maybe this could make sense. The problem is that we need John to be married to Phoebe by 1736. Other Possibilities: Johannes Hedy Christened Jun 26, 1712 Stirchley, Shropshire John Heddey married Ann Banbridge Jan 26, 1726 at Allhallows London Wall, London Joh. Heady married Hephzibah Greene Aug 9, 1724 Jn Heady married My Townsend Jul 26, 1733 at Mentmore, Buckingham, England I would appreciate any help in tracking down which of these or other possible individuals were my ancestors. Thank you Stuart Heady Austin, Texas [email protected]

Re: HEARN; HAM,ENG; 1812 Hi Gordon, I have been searching for birthplace and family members of my gGrandfather, Robert HURN, b. May 1, 1827. Robert HURN was taken to South Africa as an Orphan or Home Child at the age of 13yrs. (abt. 1839/40). We believe that he was from the Bournemouth or Hurn Parish area (all part of Hampshire back then). He had two sisters (or aunts?), named Elizabeth and Ann. It is possible that he was born elsewhere. We also believe that his ancestors were (at some time) from Scotland before migrating to England. What really hampers my search is that I've seen our Surname(s) entered with as many as four different spellings in various parish registers - all on the same family!. As a result, I have collected many HEARN entries in my records including the other variants. I have also been in contact and exchanged information with 3 other HEARN researchers. The HEARN name is of much interest as there are HEARN, HEARNS & HERNE families who emigrated to South Africa in the 1800's. I have recently viewed films at the LDS on the Bishops Transcripts for St. James at POOLE. The records for Hampshire are all housed at the PRO at TROWBRIGDE, WILTSHIRE. I believe that they also have the records for St. Mary's. I will go through my HEARN listings and see if I can find your Mary Ann and will also contact the other HEARN researches re your posting. Do you have anything else on Mary Ann HEARN?. Guess you should first try and find Lionel GOODRAM?. Have you searched in Suffolk?. Marriages usually took place in the Bride's home town - it's possible that she moved to Suffolk with her husband.(?)
