He immigrated to USA 1842. Family tradition holds that he came by ship headed for Galveston, TX. Due to severe weather conditions, the ship landed in LA instead. He became a tutor to the children of one or more Sugar Plantation owners, as he had been well educated in Europe. Later, his employer loaned him the means to become a plantation owner. In 1847 he m Manette BLANCHARD, of Napoleonville, LA.
