    1. Appropriate Subject Lines (Was: Re: searching for surnames)

    3. Looks like we are about due for another gentle reminder about Subject Lines. Subjects such as "Searching for surnames", "My Surnames", etc., give the rest of the users ABSOLUTELY no clues as to the names you are researching. If you want the rest of us to read your email, then try to put something in the Subject line that makes us want to open and read your messages. AND, when you reply to an email with a subject such as "Searching for Surnames", and you are commenting on a name such as SMITH, for heavens sake don't just send back the reply with the same sub- ject line. Take the time to delete the old subject and type in some- thing like, "Ref. Your Searching for Surnames, Info on SMITH", or something similar. Research has shown that the majority of SURNAME mailing list subscribers ignore and delete any email that doesn't have a definitive subject. If you want your email to be read, type a meaningful sub- ject line. WHY IN THE WORLD DO YOU THINK THAT THE DANGED LINE IS INCLUDED IN ALL EMAIL IN THE FIRST PLACE?! The answer is, "To let recipients know what is in the message!" SgtGeorge
