    1. Marshall Co., AL Mystery: BRUNSON/BUNSON/BENSON/MORRIS/JONES

    3. I am trying to unravel a mystery and wondered if anyone had any information that might shed a little light on this puzzle: Does anyone have a Susan BRUNSON in their family tree? She is listed in the 1850 Marshall Co., AL (New Hope pct) census as Susan A. BRUNSON and her mother is poss. Martha BENSON (b. 1819, TN) (there are several unclear spellings that alternate between BENSON and BRUNSON in this census record.) Susan was born in approx. 1838 in Marshall Co. and a sister, Mary A. (listed in census) was born approx. 1839 in AL. Before 1860, Susan married an unknown man named MORRIS who had apparently died before the 1860 census. By him she had at least 2 children who were listed in the census: Malinda and Enoch. Listed with the family in both 1850 and 1860 are Frederick (b. 1795, SC) and Mary JONES (b. 1790, TN). There is also a John JONES (b. 1828, TN) (Martha's brother?) I haven't seen the 1840 census and so don't know what clues this may hold. Susan BRUNSON Morris eventually moved to Morrow Co., OH and became the (2nd) wife of Elisha GLEASON in 1872. They had two daughters, Hattie (b. 1874) and Katie (Kitty) (b. 1879). Susan died 14 May 1900 in Crawford Co., OH and is buried at the Sixteen Methodist Episcopal Cemetery, Whetstone Twp., Crawford Co., OH. Regarding Susan and her family, I am looking for: 1 marriage date and full name of Susan's husband ? MORRIS 2 proof that Martha BENSON is Susan BRUNSON's mother. What was her father's name? Reason for spelling difference? 3 relationship between JONES/BENSON/BRUNSON. Were the JONESes Martha's parents? 4 In Aug 1861, Susan had a daughter, Mexico Morris. If she was the daughter of Susan's husband Morris, he would have had to have been alive during the taking of the 1860 census. Is she an illeg. dau. or was Susan perhaps just living separately from Mr. Morris during this time? Any info that might help clear up this mystery would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Cassie clnholly@aol.com AL surnames: PATE/JONES/GARNER/TUBB/SANDERS/GOODMAN/BUNSON/BRUNSON/BENSON/BEAVERT
