MY 6th great grand parents, John HOUSTON (born abt 1680 in Ireland) and wife Margaret CUNNINGHAM, came to America from Ireland abt 1735. With them were five of their children and his mother. They settled first in Pa, then Augusta Co. VA. Three of their children are my 5th great grand parents; Samuel HOUSTON, Mathew HOUSTON (Vet of Rev. War) and Isabella HOUSTON who married William GILLESPIE (Vet of Rev War). Samuel HOUSTON ( Born in Ireland 1728) married Elizabeth McCROSKEY 1753/4. Their son, William (born 1767) married Mary BLACK (dau of Joseph BLACK who signed the Tn constitution) in Green Co. TN. William and Mary's son John "Jack" HOUSTON (born abt 1800) married Martha Lyle GILLESPIE in Blount Co. TN in1817. Her father was Capt. James GILLESPIE (BORN1771) son of William GILLESPIE and Isabella HOUSTON--- John "Jack" and Martha HOUSTON along with her father, James GILLESPIE, were amoung the early settlers of Shelby Co. TN. Their son, William Byrd HOUSTON, moved to Poinsett Co. Arkansas in1856. James GILLESPIE moved to Pine Bluff, AR. I would like to make contact with anyone who is researching these families.
