Elizabeth, Salmi was probably not their original name, especially if they came through Ellis. Try a double "a" and a double "i" in their name. Saalmii is much more Finnish. The records in Finland would be in Swedish, and I can translate for you if you need it. They probably came from two possible ports, and if you can get records for that time frame, you'll be able to trace them from Finland to New York. As far as I've been told he came to the U.S. from Finland a year or so before 1919. I can't find any records. He should have been traveling with his wife(unknown) 2 possibly 3 children. They were Helen, Henri (Henry), & possibly Armas. I am not sure if he was born in Findland or the U.S. He was born in 1919. Also traveling with them was Alina SAARINEN, the babysitter? Who turned out to be my Grandmother. She was born 1895 and died 1980. I was told they came to Ellis Island, then I don't know ,then Rifton, N. Y. John then went to Calif. and Alina went to Florida. I don't know the years. I never knew who Johns' wife was or where she went. I appreciate any help. Thank-you in advance Elizabeth Salmi Oliver ==== SURNAME-QUERY Mailing List ==== To unsubscribe from SURNAME-QUERY, send an e-mail message to: [email protected] (for individual messages) [email protected] (for Digest mode) Subject: unsubscribe In the body include only one word: unsubscribe (Turn OFF your signature file when sending this command)
