I don't know where you are located in the US but the Smith families are very well documented on LI especially on the east end of LI where alot of them settled. Many are buried in the old Smithtown cem., patchogue cem and Wading river cem. Have you tried inquiring at the Smithtown lib., Smithtown historical soc, There is also a site for LI gene (althought I am not much help in this area because I cannot remember the site address) I do thing that if you go to www.cyndislist.com or to genweb you might find it. I don't know if your family is related to the Tangier Smith family, signer of the declaration of Independance. But their home, which is a state park and open to the public, is located in Mastic Beach NY just south of Montauk Hwy. It really is a cool place as you can see the many renovations that the family made to the place to extend as the family grew. It even has the family cem. on the farm along with the slaves graves. That whole area from the north shore to the south shore use to belong to the smith family. Good luck, Joan
