Hi Alma: Wilmelm might be another idea for Welcom. As to why they might name a child Welcom - I wonder if the idea that the child was/would be Welcome into the family, into the home, etc. I guess I can visualize a mother (in the early 1800's) looking at a newborn and saying "Your are welcome into this family". (My parents always told me I had a vivid imagination!!!). I'd be interested to know what you find out. I realize it isn't my family you are researching, by my curiosity is aroused.
