With any list there is differing opinions regarding the topics, people joining a list do read the Welcome messages, however, they may only read it once or twice and not read it many time like some of the "Oldies." New people do have a lot to offer to any list, sometimes bringing new information. If the "Oldies" could be more supportative of the new people, more people would share information, instead of lurking with valuable information. I understand that Sgt. George does provide a valuable service, but it is a bit intimidating to offer information, when it seems like the "Oldies" think that us "Newbies" don't know anything. Thank you for reading. Jenny

OK, good news: our mailing list is ready to roll. Briefly (very), people can subscribe to the list in mail mode by sending a message to KEMPERS-L-request@rootsweb.com that contains the word subscribe and nothing else. If you prefer digest mode, they should send the command instead to KEMPERS-D-request@rootsweb.com. To unsubscribe, you should send the command "unsubscribe" to KEMPERS-L-request@rootsweb.com (if in mail mode) or KEMPERS-D-request@rootsweb.com (if in digest mode.) To switch from one mode to the other, you should unsubscribe from one and then subscribe to the other. To post to both KEMPERS-L and KEMPERS-D, messages should be sent to KEMPERS-L@rootsweb.com. Messages sent there will appear both places. -- **************************************** Pauline Phelps Bakersfield CA 93304 ========================================== The Past is History. Researchers, My first ancestor I have been able to document is Benjamin Rutter. Benjamin and Sarah migrated to Newton Twp., Muskingum County, Ohio. In 1816 they purchased 160 acres there in Section 36. In 1836 Benjamin and Sarah sold the majority of this farm to their children for $500.00 They had 14 children. One of them, my Great Grandfather Isaac Rutter sold his portion of the Muskingum County Rutter family farm to his brother James on June 10, 1844 and in 1850 he is in Green Twp., Hocking County, Ohio. In 1851 Isaac purchased land there, but had relocated to Marion Twp., Hocking County, by 1860. The paper trail from 1816 is relative good to the present. However, I do not know for sure where he came from. The 1860 census shows he gave his birth place as Maryland. Thank you for your interest. Chuck
Researchers, Searching for information on Daniel Baker. The 1850 census shows him in Sandusky County, Scotts Twp., age 50, a farmer. Shows his wife as Mary???? At this point in time they had three children, Jacob, Maria and David B. I believe Daniel to be the father of my Jacob Baker, who migrated to Michigan, marrying Annie S. Sheseley in 1857. Annie was born April 1838 in Rollersville, Ohio. Jacob and Annie came to Aurelius Twp., Ingham County, Michigan in 1867. They left Michigan in 1893 for California. Jacob was killed in a mowing machine accident Feb. 21, 1900 in Garden Grove, California. Annie died March 19, 1927 in Los Angeles, California. Both were returned to Michigain for burial in Bunker Cemetery, Eaton County, Michigan. Any information on any of these people would certainly be appreciated. Chuck
