Thanks Whoever lrainey@ix.netcom.com is, he/she needs to set up his/her email program with a name to replace "enter your name here". Next, I assume you are a "newbie" (someone who has just started using these Mailing Lists). The SURNAME-QUERY Mailing LIst is ONLY for discussing SURNAMEs. I know you weren't aware of the topics that could be discussed here, BUT all the guidelines WERE included in the Welcome Message you received upon subscribing. If you still have it (didn't just delete it immediately upon receipt), please read through it. Those of you who answered "enter your name here", please do not respond to off-topic posts here on the SURNAME-QUERY Mailing List. There is a fine Mailing List (I started it and turned it over to someone else), called RESEARCH-HOWTO at RootsWeb. It is SPECIFICALLY for this type of discussion. The original poster didn't know any better, so I'm not aiming this at him/her. The rest of you should know better. Including the original, I just downloaded 8 emails with the subject of "Census". Please watch what you post. I normally don't say anything if it involves 2 or 3 messages, but I don't want a "thread" to get started here on another off-topic subject. Thanks, SgtGeorge George W. It only lists the head of household, but it also lists the page of the full census. You need the page on the full census, otherwise you'll have to look through the entire census. Most public libraries in the region you are interested in, have copies of the full censuses for many of the census years through 1920. You can write to them for details. I have many of the census indexes for many regions thru 1880. I'll be glad to help you if you tell me which years. You mentioned Wood Co., WV. My inlaws live across the Ohio in Washington Co., OH. The public library in Marietta has a well established genealogy section. They were very helpful during my visits, but don't know how much help you might get via snail mail or email. By all means try email first. Many public libraries are now equipped but aren't well staffed. Henry S. Dillon
Call your local public library first. Ours has all the Federal Census reports; some have their own State census reports also. If they do not have these reports on microfilm or do not know where there is free access in your area; the next best bet are the Family History Centers. They are located in many Mormon Churches (Stakes). Call them for the one nearest you. They are very helpful in showing you how to research your family and their library in Salt Lake City has the largest collection of historical data in the world. Most of this information is on microfilm or microfiche that you can rent for a very small fee and research at their local library (this includes all the Census reports for here and some for other countries). Happy Hunting. Joyce There are some parts of census reports on line. If you live in Wood County your library should have census. You can also get them from interlibrary loan if you do not live in Wood County. You may be able to get a look up here: Wood County, WV Genealogy Page . Good Luck, Daniele
Well, I did it. Had a very favorable response to whether people thought a site for Young Brick Walls would be of benefit...so the site is up and running at http://www.geocities.com/Heartland/Farm/4735 . All I need now is information and queries to put on it! The site is rather bare at the moment, so please send me your Young brick walls, information, websites for me to provide links for, etc. I hope some of you can benefit from the site. Let me know what you think of it. Please remember, I just started it 3 days ago! I am looking for Joseph SIMMS/SIMS and his son William in Edgecombe County, North Carolina. Joseph married Charity Barnes, and William married Edith (Ede) Horn, sister of William Horn. Joseph died in 1795. William's dates are 1760-1827. Sue Simms Hill shill@1starnet.com
Looking for information on William Erwin (Irwin?) Hampton, son of William P and Malinda Hampton. William was one of seven children and seems to have disappeared with out a trace. There is a marriage record for McLean Co. Illinois for a William E Hampton and a Melvina Hykens on 4/17/1855. Five of William's brothers and sisters were married in McLean Co between 1831 and 1855. All of his sisters stayed in Illinois as far as we know, but his two brothers John and James went to Dade County Missouri with their parents William and Malinda. Can anyone confirm that the William E Hampton who married Melvina Hykens is the one I am looking for ? Does anyone have any information at all about William Erwin and where he went ? Will share all information that I have on the Hampton family. Thanks in advance for your help and your time Jaime JLeeV196@aol.com
Does anyone know about the descendants/ancestors of ELIAS BEAUCHAMP the nationalist who was one of the two assassins of Colonel E. Francis Riggs. The assassination took place on February 23, 1936 at San Juan, Puerto Rico. The articles published in The New York Times on this event do not contain any personal information on Elias. I have a line of Beauchamps in my genealogy and I am trying to determine whether or not Elias was related. Any assistance would be very much appreciated. Julia jms139@aol.com

First of all, let me apologize to the Olsens if they think I am "picking" on them. (GRIN) I assure you, I'm not. It's just that this is a perfect example of why users should make SURE they change the Subject: line when they reply to a message, ESPECIALLY to something from a Digest. You left the Subject: line as it was in the Digest you received. Anyone looking for subject lines just might skip this and delete it. You should have changed it to something like: EDWARDS, John, James, & Matthew Edwards; Cornwall, England>Mich., USA; 1831 Not only would you have told other users something about whom you are researching, but you would have given enough information for them to have been able to "zero in" on your specific name/lines. Remember, if you forget all else, try to make good subject lines and always put the SURNAMES in CAPS. Regards, SgtGeorge George W. Charles Rutter posted a query on 6 Feb 1999. Sorry for the delay responding. The paper trail from 1816 is relative good to the present. However, I do not know for sure where he came from. The 1860 census shows he gave his birth place as Maryland. Chuck- You might try Cecil County, Maryland. I have a JOHN LORTH RUTTER (1844-1870) m. ca. 1869 ELLA CECILIA LARZELERE (1849-after 1932). John was the son of JOHN RUTTER and SARAH B. LORTH. The LARZELERE family in Maryland was related to the LARZELERE family in Muskingum County, Ohio. In fact, during the Civil War many members of the Maryland branch moved to Muskingum County until the war was over. I know it is a long shot, but I hope it helps. Good luck. Here's a long shot....I have a George Washington Kuehn (family lived prior in Iowa). Had married first my grandfather's oldest sister, Anna Maria Davis, and after her death married the younger sister, Sarah Davis. George and Sarah married in Minnesota, I believe Lincoln County around 1900. Obviously, there is no Dunn connection here, but maybe your Kuehn and mine are related?? Let me know if you can connect anything. Thanks, Carolyn Davis Olson Please reply to: Budsmum@aol.com
