    3. Researchers, I would be interested in exchanging information with anyone researching the Sumerix/Sumrix/Sumrick surnames. Our family line is Sumerix and most are from Michigan. We have not been able to locate any Sumerix's outside of Michigan to date. Thank you. Chuck Charles Rutter ^ ^ crutter@voyager.net . . o (~) March 1, 1999 9:37 pm

    1. BENJAMIN & SARAH RUTTER/1816
    2. Charles Rutter
    3. Researchers, My first ancestor I have been able to document is Benjamin Rutter. Benjamin and Sarah migrated to Newton Twp., Muskingum County, Ohio. In 1816 they purchased 160 acres there in Section 36. In 1836 Benjamin and Sarah sold the majority of this farm to their children for $500.00 They had 14 children. One of them, my Great Grandfather Isaac Rutter sold his portion of the Muskingum County Rutter family farm to his brother James on June 10, 1844 and in 1850 he is in Green Twp., Hocking County, Ohio. In 1851 Isaac purchased land there, but had relocated to Marion Twp., Hocking County, by 1860. The paper trail from 1816 is relative good to the present. However, I do not know where he came from. The 1860 census shows he gave his birth place as Maryland. Thank you. Chuck Charles Rutter ^ ^ crutter@voyager.net . . o (~) March 1, 1999 9:16 pm

    1. Re: Smith & Ruland family from Smithtown, L.I., NY
    2. I don't know where you are located in the US but the Smith families are very well documented on LI especially on the east end of LI where alot of them settled. Many are buried in the old Smithtown cem., patchogue cem and Wading river cem. Have you tried inquiring at the Smithtown lib., Smithtown historical soc, There is also a site for LI gene (althought I am not much help in this area because I cannot remember the site address) I do thing that if you go to www.cyndislist.com or to genweb you might find it. I don't know if your family is related to the Tangier Smith family, signer of the declaration of Independance. But their home, which is a state park and open to the public, is located in Mastic Beach NY just south of Montauk Hwy. It really is a cool place as you can see the many renovations that the family made to the place to extend as the family grew. It even has the family cem. on the farm along with the slaves graves. That whole area from the north shore to the south shore use to belong to the smith family. Good luck, Joan

    1. ULMER and LOVELESS brickwalls
    2. Rex W Ulmer
    3. Howdy I'm already on the Lovelace / Loveless list. There is no Ulmer list yet. These are my brick walls. I am posting this Loveless information in hopes someone not on the list, who might have some helpful info., might run across this. Here goes: ULMER FAMILY (me) Rex W. ULMER 1961 Kansas married Ginger HUBBELL; son of Harold ULMER 1936 Kansas married Thelma LOVELESS; son of Lawrence A. ULMER 1904 Kansas married Hazel NEWCOM; son of Andrew J. ULMER 1877 Madison Co., Illinois married Alice May WEATHERBY; son of Frederick C. ULMER 9-1-1847 Lancaster Co., PA. married Mary WESTERHOLT/D; the son of Frederick C. ULMER 12-4-1815 place unknown, but maybe Germany, married Susanna GRAMM (KAMM?) born PA. My problem is this: I can't find Fred C. ULMER, Junior or Senior, in the 1850 Lancaster Co., PA census. I do find Christian F. Ulmer, the son of Christian F. Ulmer, with a brother Jacob Ulmer (just like there is supposed to be) and the wife/mother's name of Susanna. The census dates, and given ages are correct. The junior / senior relationship is correct. The mother's name is correct. The brother Jacob is correct. The location is correct. HOW DO I GO ABOUT TO PROVE THAT THESE CHRISTIAN F. ULMERS ARE MY FREDERICK C. ULMERS? This time period is also at the end of the times when many Europeans have Church / Saint's names first, followed by the Given names (their middle name) by which they were called, and many instances are found in documents by their middle names (excepting church documents, of course). What would you do? What should I do? I can know the ship that Christian F. senior came to the US on if I can claim him as my Frederick C., and then I can go to Europe to start hunting. Oh well, anyway.......... LOVELESS FAMILY (me) Rex W. ULMER Kansas 1961, son of Thelma M. LOVELESS 1937 Kansas, married Harold W. ULMER; daughter of Alvin Wight LOVELESS 1909 Kansas married Verna Belle BASS; son of Edmund Franklin LOVELESS 2-17-1887 Kansas married Henrietta Wight; son of Franklin Amos LOVELESS 2-14-1863 Iowa married Emma Louise LeLIEVRE; John Amos LOVELESS 3-8-1837 Trumbull Co., Ohio married Catherine Sherman 1836 Saumonauk, LaSalle Co., Illinois; the son of John LOVELESS 1808 New York married Sarah / Sally -?- 1808 New York. I'm having difficulty determining which John this is. I rec'd this info. per the 1850 Kendall Co., Illinois census. John and Sarah's children were: John Amos 1837 Mary Ann @1840 Horace @1845 By 1861, I suspect that the family had met some disaster or disease. John Amos married in 1857, and had a dau. who died young and Milton L. LOVELESS whose family is in the Topeka KS area. John Amos letters home from the Civil War only mention Catherine and her family - father, brothers, mother, family neighbors, but nothing about his folks / family. Does anyone recognize this family? Does anyone have a John LOVELESS from NY who dissapeared thru eastern Ohio? ALL MY FAMILY SURNAMES I AM RESEARCHING: ULMER LOVELESS NEWCOM WESTERHOLD/T GRAMM BASS WIGHT HAMMER HESSELGESSER WHITE

    1. PUTNAM,Gen.Israel descendants
    2. Margaret Scheffler
    3. I am trying to determine a female descendant of Gen. Israel Putnam who married a Joseph BARNHART and had a daughter Deborah. Deborah BARNHART married Almond STOUTENBURGH/STOTENBUR abt 1855. My guess is that Joseph BARNHART who was said to live 107 years would have been born around 1790-1810, and the female Putnam, probably after 1800. My guess is that they lived in Dutchess or Putnam Counties NY or perhaps in the Mohawk Valley towards Central New York. Gen. Israel PUTNAM had sons Israel, Denial, David and Peter Schuyler. My female Putnam would probably be a granddaughter or great granddaughter of Israel. If anyone has information on families who descended from Gen. Israel PUTNAM I would appreciate any and all leads. Thank you for any help you can provide. Margaret Scheffler
