Jones The earliest known ancestor is Epps Jones who married Polly Randolph on December 5, 1797 in Warrenton, North Carolina. There is very little information on Epps Jones. One son has been identified and this is Epps L. Jones. According to the census' of 1800, 1810, 1820 and 1830 of Warren county, North Carolina there were four sons and four daughters. The first born, a daughter, was about 1800 and the youngest, a son, was born about 1820.In the census of 1850 of Franklin county, Tennessee Epps L. Jones is listed as being 38 years old and born in North Carolina, thus his birthdate would be around 1810 or 1811. Epps Jones was still living in the late 1830s for we find that he purchased 10 barrels of corn, a heifer, and 10 bushels of wheat from the estate of John Falcone. Another transaction was recorded July 14, 1827 between Epps and Thomas J. Judkins when Epps sold six cows and calves, one feather bed and some furniture. Epps failed to make payments and the land was taken back by Thomas Judkins. The census of 1830 lists both Epps and his wife of being 50 to 60 years old. If this is true then he would have been 55 years old in 1830 and have been born in 1775 putting him at 22 years old when he married Polly Randolph in 1797, the daughter of Peter (Randolph) Randall and Polly Green. Polly was born September 3, 1773 and was 24 years old when they married. The double name (Randolph) Randall was used by this family and the kinsman in Warren county, North Carolina, while in Brunswick County, Virginia only the Randall was used. In the 1840 census we find Epps L. Jones in Bedford county, Tennessee. The obituary of a son, Robert Randolph Jones who was a Methodist Minister in middle Tennessee for almost 50 years states that he was born in Bedford county, Tennessee. The first of my line to come to Texas was the James Randall Jones, great grandson of Epps Jones. James Randall Jones was born in Warren County, North Carolina and by 1837 the family had moved to Bedford County, Tennessee. His father Epps L. listed his occupation at one time or another as farmer, millwright, mechanic and carpenter as well as a minister. Then in the year 1880 they moved to Texas. They first went to Fort Worth and then on to Cleburne, Johnson County, Texas. James Randall died in 1888 and his widow, Lucinda Virginia continued with the family responsibilities for several years and after the youngest was on his own she spent her remaining years with her son James Norten Jones and his family. She died in 1917 and is buried in the Hopewell Cemetery, about three miles northeast of Cleburne, beside her husband. This article was from a newspaper in Troy, Obion County, Tn. and was sent to me by Mr. Ben Brewer. This is being posted here because Annis (Anna) lived here at one time. She appears on the 1840 census of Stewart co, Tn. with her husband Francis Collins b. March 11, 1791 S.C. Francis Collins died in 1844. OLDEST WOMAN IN AMERICA Mrs. Anna Collins of Troy, Tennessee Is in her 108th year. Mrs. Anna Collins of Troy, Tennessee is probably the oldest woman in the United States. She was born in Robertson County, Tennessee April 17, 1788 and is therefore in her 108th year. Her husband, Francis Collins, was born March 11, 1791 and came from South Carolina to West Tennessee. He was one of the most noted methodist evangelists that was ever in the south. It is said of him that in one of his revival meetings such enthusiasm was manifested that there were in two weeks 845 conversions and 456 accessions to the church. Five children were born to Francis and Anna Collins, two of whom are still living, the eldest being a man of three score and six years. She has used tobacco constantly for fifty-five years and is as strong today as most women at the age of 45. Does anyone know or connect Annis (Anna) Collins? Will share any information Thanks 'In prosperity our friends know us; in adversity we know our friends" LaNoy Collins 10620 SW 27th Ave D-3 Ocala, Fl. 34476 golffer4@mercury.net http://www.geocities.com/rainforest/3860/ Have a nice day.
