    2. Amy Brown
    3. Searching for information on the parents of Stonewall Jackson Brown, and any relatives going further back. He changed his name to just Jack Brown later on. He married Francis Dera Sanders, and they had 5 children: Jack Dale, Jonathan Dallas, Francis, Margaret, and Billy (perhaps William)?. This is my husband's family, and no one seems to know anything. Thanks for any contributions. 1. Harris, Ed Herbert/ Lowe, Emma
    2. Amy Brown
    3. Trying to find information on parents of Harris and Lowe. Harris and Lowe were born in the 1870s or 1880s in Georgia (probably Harris County), since my great-grandfather, Jesse Herbert, was born in 1902. Their children were Jesse Herbert Harris, Walter Harris, Nancy Harris, and Lucy Harris. Ed Herbert is probably Edmond Herbert, since my grand father's name was Claude Edmond, and the name Claude came from his maternal grandfather. Thanks for any help.

    1. POLLARD; DEU> OR, USA; 1790-1998
    2. pollard
    3. Hello SURNAMES-QUERY-LIST, I have been observing this list for over several months now and due to the apparent depth and breadth of: (1) the historical, and (2) the genealogical knowledge base of the subscribers; I thought I might ask the list if you have any suggestions for gaining "historical perspective" or "historical insight" into my elusive ancestors genealogical past. In the posting which will follow, I have rigidly adhered to "oral history" derived from hours-upon-hours of "interviewing" my Grandfather and my Grandfather's surviving Sister. The data and the surnames herein noted were passed down to my G-Grandfather WILLIAM RICHARD POLLARD from my G-G-Grandmother KINDER/KUNDER and my G-G-POLLARD UNCLES that lived in primitive EARLY OREGON TERRITORY c. early-to-mid 1800's. In fact, as I will note in the posting below, due to multiple premature deaths in my family, there are many broken links hence much missing genealogical data. But key portions of "secondary information" have been preserved through the process or tradition of "oral history". Well, like the Latin saying goes, CARPE DIEM: I am researching my G-G-G-Grandfather Asa KINDER/KUNDER born c.1780-1800 (?). I am told that Asa KINDER/KUNDER was connected to William PENN's Pennsylvania DUTCH QUAKER's. In fact I am told that Asa was from PENNSYLVANIA and he was known to have family in GERMANY, ILLINOIS, PHILADELPHIA, NEW YORK, MISSOURI and MISSISSIPPI. Asa KINDER/KUNDER married Sallie BLEAU/BLEAUX/BLUE/BLU/BLUX (BIREAU/BILYEU?); I am told that she had relatives living in both CANADA, FRANCE, GERMANY and AMERICA. It may be important to note that both Asa and Sallie were known to have spoken both ENGLISH and GERMAN; however GERMAN was the dominant language and it was spoken at home. Asa and Sallie had a daughter, Frances KINDER/KUNDER born about c.1835-1845 (?). Additionally, I am told that Asa and Sallie had another child that may have been named ATHIELA(?); born about c.1835-1845 (?). Frances KINDER/KUNDER married Sebastian POLLARD (my G-G-Grandfather) during or after the Civil War c. 1860-1865 (?). Frances was said to have: (1) a milk-white complexion, (2) red-hair, and (3) to have been extremely beautiful. I am also told that Sebastian POLLARD came to AMERICA from FRANCE by way of LOUISIANA, MISSOURI and MISSISSIPPI. In fact, I am told that Sebastian was born in SOUTHERN FRANCE c. 1790-1815 (Please note that this approximation of his age is based on his appearance in a surviving photograph which was taken during the CIVIL WAR). Additionally, Sebastian was said to be a cousin to NAPOLEON BONAPARTE (BUONA PARTE). In fact, family "oral tradition" tells that he was believed to be a HORSEMAN for NAPOLEON BONAPARTE'S ARMY in Europe. Hence I may have relatives living in LOUISIANA, MISSOURI, MISSISSIPPI, GERMANY or SOUTHERN FRANCE today. Sebastian POLLARD was said to speak ENGLISH, FRENCH and GERMAN; however GERMAN was his dominant language and it was spoken at home (my G-Grandfather William Richard POLLARD grew up speaking GERMAN). Here, taking into consideration that POLLARD is not a GERMAN surname; it is reasonable to assume that the surname "POLLARD" may have been acquired by SEBASTIAN shortly after arriving in AMERICA (c.1812-1815???). SEBASTIAN was said to be highly trained in techniques of: (1) HORSEMANSHIP, and (2) SELF-DEFENSE. Together, Sebastian and Frances had a daughter c.1860-1865 (?) but she died (or was killed?) between the age of 8-12 years. Then, in c.1872-1875 they had a son, William Richard POLLARD (my G-Grandfather), and he was born in the WILLAMETTE VALLEY, OREGON. Six months after his birth; Sebastian POLLARD was killed c.1872-1875. Later, Frances KINDER/KUNDER-POLLARD is said to have re-married Henry BRAMMER/BREMMER/BRUMMER from the WILLAMETTE VALLEY, OREGON. Together, they had several children: (1) Henry "Hank", (2) Nellie, and (4) Pearl. Fourteen years later, c.1885, Frances was either killed or she died by my G-Grandfathers 12-14th birthday. Further, I am told that Sebastian POLLARD had four brothers: (1) Clarence, (2) George, (3) William/Wilbur (?), and (4) Baxter/Bennett/Benard/Bernard (?). In the early-to-mid 1800's these four brothers lived in what is now known as the WILLAMETTE VALLEY, OREGON and what is now WALLA WALLA, WASHINGTON. Here, it is known that one of these brothers married into a large MORMON family and may have changed his last name. It may be important to note that my POLLARD ancestors were: (1) tall, (2) fair skinned, (3) blonde and light brunette (golden blonde/sandy blonde) haired, and (3) blue to hazel eyed. Here, it may also be important to note that my G-G-Grandfather Sebastian POLLARD was said to have hired 3 (as yet unidentified) men (not brothers) to stake large land-claims (I am told that one of these WALLA WALLA or WILLAMETTE VALLEY claims was one-square-mile in diameter) for him in EARLY OREGON TERRITORY c.early-to-mid 1800's. Furthermore, Baxter/Benard/Bernard/Bennett POLLARD was known to have married an Indian woman from the WALLA WALLA, WASHINGTON or WILLAMETTE VALLEY area. Also, I do know that George POLLARD (Sr.) had a son that was killed at the WHITMAN MISSION on November 29, 1847. In fact, his name was previously listed on a roster inside the WHITMAN MISSION HISTORICAL MUSEUM. And, there was a marker on the MISSION grounds noting where he died but both were removed form the WHITMAN MISSION HISTORICAL SITE around 1990. Here, it may be important to note that George POLLARD (Jr.) was picked up by a MORMON family (POLLY'S/SAGER'S?) who were leaving UTAH; and on their way to the WHITMAN MISSION c.1847. Here, George POLLARD (Jr.) was walking from what is now SALT LAKE CITY, UTAH (I am told that we had family living there but what the connection is I do not know); and was on his way to see his father or mother in what is now WALLA WALLA, WASHINGTON. I am also told that I had a G-G-G-Grandfather or a G-G-Grandfather YOUNG. But, I do not have any other information on him except for the fact that I am told that he lived with my G-Grandfather William Richard POLLARD and G-Grandmother Della May CREECH-POLLARD (my Grandfather William Henry POLLARD's parents) at their newly built Oregon Ranch c.1910-1921. Here, he was said to be approximately 60-90 years old hence he would have been born around c.1831-1861 or later (?). In fact, it may be important to note that I am told that I am related to Brigham YOUNG but I do not know the connection; perhaps he is the connection. Additionally, it may be important to note that my G-Grandmother Della May CREECH-POLLARD was killed c.1921. Moreover, aside form a lot of "oral history" detailing daily life and other events which took place in EARLY OREGON TERRITORY; I have no other genealogical data on the KINDER'S/KUNDER'S or the POLLARD'S. In fact, to date, I have been unable to locate any STATE documents which connect with: (1) SEBASTIAN POLLARD or his brothers, (2) the KINDER'S/KUNDER'S, and (3) BLEAUX/BLUE/BLU/BLUX (BIREAU/BILYEU?). With the exception of my CREECH ancestors; I have successfully traced the "oral history" passed down from my CREECH ancestors back to 15-16th CENTURY EUROPE. Here, it may be important to note that I have found a handful of "rare" or "out of print" publications on EARLY OREGON TERRITORY PIONEERS and STATE HISTORICAL SOCIETY publications (late 19th and early 20th Century) which note contradictory data on my POLLARD ancestors. But, these publications do confirm that my POLLARD ancestors were living in EARLY OREGON TERRITORY c. early-to-mid 1800's. So, if any of you SURNAMES-QUERY-LIST members out there have any suggestions with respect to: (1) historical connections, (2) names, (3) places, (4) publications, or (5) research suggestions; I'd really appreciate it because I'M STUCK... Best, Dick Pollard pollard@gte.net http://home1.gte.net/pollard/index.htm P.S.: It may be important to note that if the first name of my G-G-G-Grandfather is spelled as AASA/AESA; it becomes feminine (DANISH/SWEDISH). But if it is spelled ASA it remains masculine (BIBLE NAME 1KINGS 15:8). Similarly, if FRANCES (feminine) is spelled with an -IS; then it becomes masculine. The point being that it's possible that their names may possibly have been reversed through the process of "oral tradition" or shortened from "ASAEL" (?). Also, I have been requesting an explanation from the WHITMAN MISSION HISTORICAL MUSEUM (1997) with respect to the removal of GEORGE POLLARD'S name from the historical site; but to date I have not received an explanation (I will re-submit another request this month). Also, Sebastian POLLARD and his brothers were said to have once lived in the region of WASHINGTON STATE which is now known as REPUBLIC, WASHINGTON (c.1800's). This region is located very near the CANADIAN BORDER and is near modern archaeological HUDSON BAY dig sites. In fact, it may be important to note that there was once a small town named POLLARD, WASHINGTON which is located within 10-15 minutes of REPUBLIC, WASHINGTON; and it's not too far from NAPOLEON, WASHINGTON. But the site is now located on private property and my on-site "field research" was subsequently limited. However, this small town is still listed on most modern WASHINGTON STATE maps. In fact, it is located near the BONAPARTE MOUNTAINS in FERRY COUNTY, WASHINGTON. The bottom line here is that if anyone out there has any 19th or 20th Century historical information or references on: (1) POLLARD, WASHINGTON, (2) the BONAPARTE MOUNTAINS, (3) NAPOLEON, WASHINGTON; I could really use it.
