Upon arriving in Queensland, Australia he took up land at Slacks Creek. Sold out after several years and bought another property at Stockleigh from pre-1887. Retired to live with his daughter Martha (Zink) at whose Gleneagle home he passed away. August was the first Farmer to experimnent with ensilage on the Logan River. Buried at Logan Village Cemetery.
