This article was from a newspaper in Troy, Obion County, Tn. and was sent to me by Mr. Ben Brewer. This is being posted here because Annis (Anna) lived here at one time. She appears on the 1840 census of Stewart co, Tn. with her husband Francis Collins b. March 11, 1791 S.C. Francis Collins died in 1844. OLDEST WOMAN IN AMERICA Mrs. Anna Collins of Troy, Tennessee Is in her 108th year. Mrs. Anna Collins of Troy, Tennessee is probably the oldest woman in the United States. She was born in Robertson County, Tennessee April 17, 1788 and is therefore in her 108th year. Her husband, Francis Collins, was born March 11, 1791 and came from South Carolina to West Tennessee. He was one of the most noted methodist evangelists that was ever in the south. It is said of him that in one of his revival meetings such enthusiasm was manifested that there were in two weeks 845 conversions and 456 accessions to the church. Five children were born to Francis and Anna Collins, two of whom are still living, the eldest being a man of three score and six years. She has used tobacco constantly for fifty-five years and is as strong today as most women at the age of 45. Does anyone know or connect Annis (Anna) Collins? Will share any information Thanks 'In prosperity our friends know us; in adversity we know our friends" LaNoy Collins 10620 SW 27th Ave D-3 Ocala, Fl. 34476 golffer4@mercury.net http://www.geocities.com/rainforest/3860/ Have a nice day. This is the father of Willoughby James Tullos About 1859 Willoughby Tullos, his wife Nancy and their children, Mary Jane, Nancy Ann, Albert, Steven and the youngest Willoughby James (1857-1909) gathered there possessions into a covered wagan. They traveled with a train of eight wagons from Simpson county, Mississippi to Trinty county, Texas. On October 10th, 1860, twins were born. David and Jackson (Jackson's grave marker states 1861) at Sumpter, Texas. David married Ann J. Ainsworth and Jackson married Mary Robbins and on her death Jackson married her sister, Louisa Jane Robbins. One more addition was a daughter, Sarah born in 1866. She married W.G. Simms and then married John L. Ainsworth. When the was broke out the father, Willoughby Tullos, enlisted on the 20th of March 1862, in Company A, Gould's Battalion, Texas Calvalry. Willoughby Tullos and Nancy were divorced and he married Rachel Powell and had another family. I do not have any information on the second family. Willoughby and Nancy both died in the 1890's in Texas. Their son Willoughby James (1857-1909) married Samantha Caroline Ainsworth (1860-1952) on Aug 26, 1880 in Groveton, Texas. Samantha was the daughter of John Levin Ainsworth (1832-1917) and Samantha C. Maness (1840-1895). The Ainsworths married 14th of December 1857 in the home oe Hiram and Lucinda Maness, in Trinty county, Texas. Only information I have on the Maness family is that they came from McNairy county, Tn. During the was John L. Ainsworth enlisted in Com;any G, 22nd Texas Infantry. He left his family in care of his father-in-law, Hiram Maness. Hiram was murdered while plowing in his field on April 12, 1864. When John heard about Hirams death he came home to avenge it. He looked for the murderer until he became satisfied that justice had been done, then her returned to the Army. Willoughby James (1857-1909) and Samantha Caroline Ainsworth (1860-1952) had six childre that I can find. 1. Nancy married Jim Rains 2. John W. married Ada Barton 3. Callie married Edgar Pruitt 4. David married Georgie Simmons 5. Steve (Dock) married Bertha Simmons 6. Mary Louise died at age six in 1908 Looking for information on the children of Willoughby Tullos and there children. I think a lot of us who have been trying to do our genealogy have just been waiting for all the dust to settle so to speak. But it seems that all will not settle and it just seems to go on and on. Now we have got to the point that we are starting to use some fowl language on out list. Would it not be better to take the offenders of the subject line to task one on one and not on the general list. I would think that by keeping all the chastizing private that this would insure a smoother operation over all for the entire list. The list owner has full power to unsubscribe anyone they wish to without a reason if they so desire. But once you bring out all the quarrels into the general list then everyone wants to get in on the spats and you have what we have right now. A list that will probably go down if the spats are not stopped now. Please for the sake of the group who I think for the most part just want to do genealogy, go private to repremand the offenders in any way you see fit. Now that I have had my say I will not interfere again. Thanks and by the way you did have a good group at one time. Hi all, In fairness to those that have written me asking me what the "suggested" format for messages on this list should be, I chose a message that, in my mind, is textbook. ============================================= From: Ginette VandenOever <g1vanden@airmail.net> Subject: LANDERS, Catherine Ann Elizabeth Shipp; 1820-1913; VA>KY>MO Resent-From: SURNAME-QUERY-L@rootsweb.com To: SURNAME-QUERY-L@rootsweb.com < Please note the above SUBJECT LINE - See how much information is gained from a glance? This list is not dedicated to ONE surname, people use this type of list as a general "all-call". When you belong to several mailing lists and get about 1000 messages a day, like myself, I scan the subject lines for data that pertains to me - the rest hits the bit bucket. I do an INTENSE amount of New England Colonial research and could probably help a lot of people out with data from the reference library I have - with a subject line od "SURNAMES", even though you have a monumental tree in the body, I will never see it. > LANDERS, Catherine / HUDSON, Atha Gregory Looking for information on the parents of Catherine LANDERS b. July 1820 in Hopkinsville KY; died in Humansville, MO; m. Atha Gregory Hudson b. September 25, 1813; d. 1913 in Humansville, MO; m. 1835 in Sedalia, MO. They were married for over 75 years and lived in Humansville, MO. Believe her mother's maiden name may have been Shipp. Only know of one child Ophelia Kate Hudson b. March 12, 1863 in Sedalia, MO (there may have been more children). Catherine LANDERS' father was a wealthy plantation owner. Any help on finding any of this information is very much appreciated. I will share what information I have gathered. < The body of Ginette's message contains a wealth of information that will give someone a place to start when trying to help her. To throw a list of SURNAMES without some pertinant detail such as locations and dates, is about worthless. I realize that sometimes it is all you have, and it is ok to do... but the more the better! Well written messages like this go into a holding area on my system. If someone comes along later and happens to be looking for this data, I will put them in touch with the originator of this message. > Ginette g1vanden@airmail.net < It has been my experience that a lot of people are using these "freebie" alternate mail sites. It has also been my experience that most of them have a lot of problems and mail sent to them gets bounced. If you use one of these services, it is a good idea to put your email address after your signature line... that way we can contact you if there are any problems. > ==== SURNAME-QUERY Mailing List ==== APPROPRIATE SUBJECT LINES: In an effort to provide meaningful Subject: lines in posts to the SURNAME-QUERY List, the Listowner asks you to try to adhere to the following format: <I had to laugh when I saw the tagline on this message..(grin). At the end of EVERY message that goes through this list, is one of these taglines. At least glance at them, folks. I change them as I see the need and there is no guarantee that you have "seen them all"! > Thank you Ginette, for the use of your message in our classroom today! This was a VERY nicely presented query. If you want to contact me, and for those of you that are GOING TO RESPOND to Ginette and tell her how nice her message was, PLEASE do it in private email! As my last point, I had it pointed out to me last night that open discussion concerning suggestions, improvements, etc., are welcome on this list. I agree with this to the point that it does not consist of 100 messages all saying the same thing, and not containing the ENTIRE quoted text of previous messages. In this light, I make a proposal: If you have an idea, or feel that something is wrong, I would prefer that you email me first and discuss it with me. I email a lot of people with problems and nine times out of ten, it has been dealt with before you even see the original message. I am behind this keyboard 14 hours a day between work and at home. I pull mail about every ten minutes due to my volume. If I believe it to be a subject of list interest, after discussing it with you, I WILL POST IT to the list. This in effect opens the subject for general coment. Fair enough? I would also prefer that complaints be handled the same way. As the listowner, it is MY responsibility to admonish the "bad guys" and take the heat. As users of this list, you should concentrate on using this list for what it is intended, the seeking and gaining of knowledge. There are no "co-moderators" on this list and all your open "pot-shots" will get you is being dumped from the list, or getting a nag letter from me. I would prefer not having to add those functions to my daily list, personally. Thanks Cliff, for the email you sent.... Take care all... Ron Lahti Surname-Query Listowner
