    1. MAY(S), Henry Houston, Ms. Tx. Ark. Illinois
    2. Sterling R. Mays
    3. Seeking any information: Henry Houston Mays: b. June 17-1872 Place of birth unknown, Could be Texas, Ark, or Illinois. Parents name unknown. Mother's maiden name possibly COWAN. Henry married Lilly McDougald in Ms. Henry was 1/4 to 1/2 Native American, probably Cherokee. This is all the information that we have on Henry: He and his parents moved to a ranch in the Fort Worth of Texas when he was small. Henry was left an orphan at age 14. He was forced to leave the property by other ranchers. It is thought his parents owned the land. Henry made his was thru Ark. to Memphis where he thought he had a grandfather. It is unknow if his name was May(s) or Cowan. He could not locate him and worked on a boat for a while. He worked up to Illinois and came back to Ark. and went to work for Daniel McDougald who owned land in Ark. When Daniel returned to Ms. where he also owned land, he brought Henry with him. Henry married McDougald's daughter, Lilly. They had four children, Taylor, Daisy, Charlie and Sterling. The name Sterling is thought to have been a family name. Henry's son Sterling was an avid Harley rider as are most of his descendants. Anyone, who has any information that could lead to the identification of Henry or his parents, I would be forever thankful. Anyone willing to check records, census or land grants in the Fort Worth area for a May(s) moving there around 1880 would be appreciated. Thank you Suzanne

    1. TRAXLER/TRUXLER, IL 1850's
    2. Doug Powers
    3. Looking for info on the TRAXLER/TRUXLER (or variant spelling) families that were in Union Co., IL in 1850 and Clinton Co., IL in 1860. Probably in Alexander Co., IL as well. In 1850, Sophia TRAXLER is listed in Union County, IL, with her children Caleb, b. 1832 and Margaret, b. 1839, all in South Carolina. In the next household were John TRAXLER, probably another son, b. 1827 and his wife Mary Ann, b. 1830. John was b. in SC, Mary Ann in IL. In 1860, Sophia is listed in Clinton Co., IL, and her last name is spelled as TRUXLER. She is listed as being b. in NC. Also in her household is a William ALBEDANT (this surname could be wrong, and was transcribed from almost illegible handwriting). William is probably a grandson. Info on this family's ancestry and descendants would be appreciated. Thanks, Doug Powers

    1. Fw: JONES Warren county, NC
    2. LaNoy Collins
    3. Jones The earliest known ancestor is Epps Jones who married Polly Randolph on December 5, 1797 in Warrenton, North Carolina. There is very little information on Epps Jones. One son has been identified and this is Epps L. Jones. According to the census' of 1800, 1810, 1820 and 1830 of Warren county, North Carolina there were four sons and four daughters. The first born, a daughter, was about 1800 and the youngest, a son, was born about 1820.In the census of 1850 of Franklin county, Tennessee Epps L. Jones is listed as being 38 years old and born in North Carolina, thus his birthdate would be around 1810 or 1811. Epps Jones was still living in the late 1830s for we find that he purchased 10 barrels of corn, a heifer, and 10 bushels of wheat from the estate of John Falcone. Another transaction was recorded July 14, 1827 between Epps and Thomas J. Judkins when Epps sold six cows and calves, one feather bed and some furniture. Epps failed to make payments and the land was taken back by Thomas Judkins. The census of 1830 lists both Epps and his wife of being 50 to 60 years old. If this is true then he would have been 55 years old in 1830 and have been born in 1775 putting him at 22 years old when he married Polly Randolph in 1797, the daughter of Peter (Randolph) Randall and Polly Green. Polly was born September 3, 1773 and was 24 years old when they married. The double name (Randolph) Randall was used by this family and the kinsman in Warren county, North Carolina, while in Brunswick County, Virginia only the Randall was used. In the 1840 census we find Epps L. Jones in Bedford county, Tennessee. The obituary of a son, Robert Randolph Jones who was a Methodist Minister in middle Tennessee for almost 50 years states that he was born in Bedford county, Tennessee. The first of my line to come to Texas was the James Randall Jones, great grandson of Epps Jones. James Randall Jones was born in Warren County, North Carolina and by 1837 the family had moved to Bedford County, Tennessee. His father Epps L. listed his occupation at one time or another as farmer, millwright, mechanic and carpenter as well as a minister. Then in the year 1880 they moved to Texas. They first went to Fort Worth and then on to Cleburne, Johnson County, Texas. James Randall died in 1888 and his widow, Lucinda Virginia continued with the family responsibilities for several years and after the youngest was on his own she spent her remaining years with her son James Norten Jones and his family. She died in 1917 and is buried in the Hopewell Cemetery, about three miles northeast of Cleburne, beside her husband.
