    1. HATMAN from Missouri or Arkansas
    2. ally A.
    3. Hello! I am looking for any informtion about the HATMAN family. This family was in Missouri in 1860 with the father listed as Isaac HATMAN. By 1870 and 1880 they are in Fulton and Izard Counties in Arkansas. This family seems to appear out of nowhere and I have a hunch there was a name change. If anyone has any information about this family please contact me at sophrona@hotmail.com The Hatman's married into the PUGH family from Arkansas. I have some informtion about the PUGH family, but have not been able to find any maillists of other people researching them. If anyone has information about these two families I would like to hear from you. If anyone knows about any mail lists for PUGH or Izard and Fulton Counties in Arkansas please let me know. Thank you, Allison ______________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free Email at http://www.hotmail.com

    3. I am looking for any information on JAMES H. FLATT, b. Scotland , c 1830-31. He went to Ontario, Canada as a young man. The 1871 Ontario census lists him as a farmer, born in Scotland. He married MATILDA LOVILA CAMPBELL (or Lovila Matilda Camkpbell, I've seen it both ways) in Canada. She was born in Canada of Scottish descent. They had at least five sons who came to the U.S.. One of the boys wrote a book about their journey, and I would love to get my hands on that book. One of the sons, ORMAND BODINE FLATT, was my great grandfather. He was born January 29, 1861 in Guelph, Ontario, Canada, and settled in Sadorus Co., Illinois. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Michele Kilmer

    3. It's no occupation, that's true. I have been extracting ship records from Ellis Islands for a project, and seen the term used a lot. Many times the recorder is pretty casual about how things are stated, spelled, named, etc. My comrads and I have always supposed "spinster" was listed in the occupation space more as a discription than anything else. We might be way off base. Good luck. Pat >I believe that it just lists the person as unmarried. I don't believe that >this would be an occupation.
