    1. Re: RULES for the ...
    2. Jay Johnston
    3. It seems to me that anyone that has an interest in someone finding their post and reading them would want to follow a general subject line. (Especially with digests) I get about 20 digests a day, and only read the headers for topics. A subject line that says "surnames" tells me nothing more than the list name. If you read your digests with Outlook Express you have to click on every post individually. Maybe some people would take the time to check each one, but I frankly don't have the time and really am not interested in every post. BTW I think this list is handled very well !! 1. IGI Question
    2. Karen, IGI stands for International Genealogical Index. This is the LDS FAmily History Centers program for people where they have either sent members to courthouses etc. and placed names in their computers. All are from their temple files. You man either find a single person, a marriage or family unit. If you find a match, you may order the film, if available, from their main libray for a small fee of rental and view same, sometime the information is worth it, sometime you do not get enough to be worth it. There is a phamplet telling all about IGI, wish I had a scanner and I would go get one and it would be better than me explaning. REMEMBER!! these are not 100% acurate. Some of these are from people just like you and me, and we all make mistakes, Aunt Susie or Uncle Tom tells us Grandma and Grandpa got married before they left TN and we put that and then we find they got married after they got to TX, or the family bible says they got married 9 months before the first child and it was really 6. We all make mistakes even back then. Take what is on IGI, check it out, but it does give you a starting place and something to go on. My best and dig deep, Charliene WRIGHT Milller

    1. IGI at FHC
    2. Tue, 8 Sep 1998 17:06:23-0500 >Charliene WRIGHT Milller >X-Message: #15 >Karen, >IGI stands for International Genealogical Index. This is the LDS FAmily History >Centers program for people where they have either sent members to courthouses >etc. and placed names in their computers. This is not entirely correct. The IGI is the International Genealogical Index, but the records do not come from family files. That is the Ancestral File data base. Both are LDS FHC (Morman Family History Center) programs. The IGI is records that have been extracted from original documents ie. church records, vital records, city history records, books in print, etc. etc. etc. These records are copied exactly as they are written and can easily be verified. You may order any microfilm available for the fee of $3.50 for 30 days, renew for an additional $3.50. Microfische are .15 cents and they stay at the center where you ordered them. The Ancestral File data base are the records that have been submitted by family members, they DO need to be verified. I hope this helps clear up the FHC and not cause more confusion. W. How can i get information on his aunt >Catherine Connelly? I can not tell who you have written in Ireland so it is hard to give specific advice. However, you aparently have locations and dates in Ireland - very valuable because Irish records are sparse. I assume you've waited a reasonable amount of time for an answer from Ireland. If the family were Catholic, I'd contact the parish priest in Ireland. Check one of the current books on researching Irish roots - or visit your Family History Center (if you are near one). They have excellent outlines on searching Irish roots. Also, check their IGI files. I am not sure, but check with Rootsweb to see if there is a web site for Sullivan. Also, check Cyndi's list on the WWW both for Irish Sources and Sullivan sources. Hope this helps. Charles Charles Heisterkamp, III [email protected]

    1. Wilkinson/Wilkerson
    2. Helen Silvey
    3. My Emeline Wilkinson/Wilkerson is my brick wall. She was 1/2 Indian, born 1821 Warren Co., Oh., lived in Marion, Ind. as a widow, remar. to Fitzallan Boynton. She had 2 daughters who married ARNOLD, a father and son and lived in Van Buren Co., Mi. where she died in Hartford in 1894/5. They only clue to her parents is that her father was Wilkinson/Wilkerson, no given name, and her mother was Indian. She was taken by train to Marion by my grandmother and her sisters (she had 5 dau.) for burial, but evidently shipped right back to Mi. and buried in Pioneed Cem. At the same time my ggrandfather, who had died in Preble Co., Oh. in 1876 was in a cemetery where the bodies had to be mvoed and he was also buried near her in Pioneed Cemetery, Hartford, Mi. They are buried under the names of Emma Lindsay and William Lindsay. Since she had 5 daughters and 2 were in Van Buren county, married name of ARNOLD, I had always hoped one of them would have desc. and would turn up with more information.
