    3. Hi, I have numerous books on American Indians. If you have the chance, read "Stolen Continents" by Ronald Wright and "A Spirited Resistance" by Gregory Evans Dowd. Quote from "Stolen Continents": <Sir William Johnson had first noticed the precocious ability of his Mohawk wife's little brother Joseph during the French and Indian war, when the boy aged thirteen, distinguished himself in battle. Johnson saw to his education, first at an anglican mission, then at the boarding school that later became Dartmouth college. Joseph Brant emerged with a thorough command of English, Latin and Greek, besides at least three of the Six Nations' languages.> Good luck, @}-}- -- Marie-Claude mcb.tokic@ns.sympatico.ca Mitakuye oyasin (We are all related) Membre du CGHHML (Limousin) > Subject: > Mohawk Chief Joseph BRANT 1742-1807 > Date: > Sun, 24 Jan 1999 21:54:16 -0500 > From: > Margaret Scheffler <figaro@dreamscape.com> > > I have learned that Mohawk Chief Joseph BRANT (1742-1807) was related > to a BARNHART/BARNHARDT. 1. VAN BUREN family
    2. Looking for information on my grandfather and his family. My grandfather was Francis Edward Van Buren born Oct 3, 1908 in the Chicago area. He had two brothers, Martin and Eugene Van Buren. I do not have birth dates for them, but I know that my grandfather was the youngest of the three boys. My greatgrandparents were Francis Edward and Ella Van Buren. Ella died while my grandfather was young and his father remarried, but I don't have the name of the second wife. My greatgrandfather ( Francis Edward #1) was supposed to be a captain or chief of police in Chicago, but I have no confirmation on that. I would be grateful for any information on this family . Thanks in advance for your time and any help Jaime JLeeV196@aol.com

    2. crystalwoman
    3. Thanks for your reply, just wondered if anyone out there is working on some of same surnames..... These lines mentioned all went to AZ 1914 and homesteaded in the Phoenix area (Litchfield Park, as it was back then)- and they were about the first farmers to grow potatoes, as well as hay back then. They had lived and farmed in Shasta Co CA, but Frank RAYNER SR decided he could get a lot of land and homestead and farm after AZ became a state, then a some of the other families went also. They had quite a lot of land and farmed it well. Family says when they went to AZ, combined they had 4 traincar loads of belongings, farm equipment, and animals. My husband was born in Phoenix. His parents and grandparents had moved back to Shasta Co., however ca. 1953-1955. Some of the other RAYNER descendants and possibly SYKES still are in the Phoenix area. I am going to need to check homesteader records, census and death records. 1. GERRITY, SULLIVAN; PA, USA; 1820-1930
    2. My direct lines include two of the most common Irish surnames ---SULLIVAN and GERRITY so you can imagine the difficulty I am having in researching these lines. It is especially difficult since the SULLIVAN line settled in PA-Old Forge, Minooka, Taylor and Scranton. The GERRITY line settled in PA-Scranton, Ledgesdale and Carbondale (with a little Wisconsin mixed in for good luck). Anyone familiar with northeast, PA (Carbondale, Minooka, Taylor, Old Forge, Ledgesdale, Scranton_ quickly recognize how popular the GERRITY and SULLIVAN surnames are. While I am accumulating quite a bit of information I need any and all assistance I can get to help me distinguish the various lines and branches of SULLIVAN and GERRITY. I am therefore asking for HELP. Thanks for taking the time to read this missile and here is hoping that somewhere out there a distant relative will come to my aid. Thanks Walton J. Sullivan at wsullivw@aol.com

    1. Gen.PUTMAN & Deborah BARNHARDT
    2. Margaret Scheffler
    3. Thank you to those who identified for me the two Rev. War generals as Israel and Rufus, and indicated the name should be spelled PUTNAM, not PUTMAN. My grandmother wrote bef. 1927 that Deborah BARNHARDT (born abt 1840) was a 2nd cousin to Gen. PUTNAM, but which one???? Her father was said to be Joseph BARNHARDT who was said to live 107 years with estimated birth abt. 1815. Deborah BARNHARDT and her husband Herbert Almond STOTENBUR lived at one time in McKean Co. PA and possibly Kinderhook, Branch, MI. Their ancestors may have lived in NYS. Would appreciate any of you Gen. Israel and Rufus PUTNAM descendants searching your family trees for a Joseph BARNHARDT married to a female PUTNAM perhaps around 1835. Thank you for any hints anyone can provide. Will share descendants. Sincerely, Margaret Scheffler figaro@dreamscape.com
