    3. ROLFE (English) Variation of ROLF, from the Middle English given name 'Rolf', meaning 'renown' + 'wolf'. It apparently came to England through both the pre-Conquest Scandinavian settlers, and through the Normans. The popular Nordic form was 'Hrolfr' (accent over the 'o'). The Norman form was generally 'Rou(l)'.
