Private family services were held March 26, in Forest Hill Cemetery. Mr. Surgnier was born September 23, 1899, in Gravette, AR. In 1923, Mr. Surgnier homesteaded 200 acres of land near Boulevard, CA. He was at times a farmer, firefighter, mechanic, road build - er, election officer, salesman and entrepreneur. He served his country during World War II, in the European Campaign, and received an honorable discharge in 1946, with a Captain's ranking. He moved to Kansas City, MO, in 1950, where he worked for Cook's Paint and Varnish as a floor coverer, until his retirement in 1968. He will be dearly missed by his family, to whom he was a constant source of inspiration and support. Mr. Surgnier was preceded in death by his wife, Sylvia, in 1987. He is survived by his daughter, Nicole Nicoll, and her husband William Nicoll, Jr.; his three grandchildren, William Nicoll III, Nancy Austin and Mary Patterson; and his three great-grandchildren, Will Austin, Luke Austin and Andy Nicoll.
