Surgenor, Samuel M 24y S Ireland, Irish Ballymena, Ireland "Arabic" Sailing from Liverpool arr 10 Jan 1910 Source http://ellisislandrecords.org This Samuel is probably a relative of mine. We know he went to USA but we don't know where. There is no corresponding match in the Social Security Death Index. As I have limited experience with USA research perhaps someone could suggest how I would go about tracing him? I found a matching Samuel in the SSDI. You should send for a copy of the application. This particular Samuel was born November 15, 1885, which would be about 24 in 1910 when yours arrived in America. He was last living in Detroit, Michigan, and his SSN was issued in Michigan. He passed away in February of 1970. http://www.ancestry.com/ssdi/ssdiletter.asp?fn=SAMUEL&ln=SURGENOR&ss=376%2D0 1%2D9324&bd=15+Nov+1885&dd=Feb+1970 I hope the above URL comes to the list intact. When they wrap, they usually do not work well. This URL is to the letter requesting a copy of the Social Security application. The application was completed by Samuel and will give you his parents names, where he was born, his address when he applied for the card, and his signature which I feel is the most important piece of data to be had from this document. The above data will confirm or refute whether he is your Samuel or not. I am hoping that he is. Once you get this document, let us know if it's him. I'm sure that other suggestions will be forthcoming as to how to proceed to locate more data on him. Good luck, Paul. Thanks, Tina. I had noticed this SSDI entry. My Samuel's birth was registered in the 1st quarter of 1895 (Jan, Feb or March). Close. I might send for the SSDI if nothing else turns up; a year in error is not unusual in my experience. Could be the birth was Nov 15 1884 and it was registered in 1st quarter of 1895. ----- Original Message ----- From: Tina Hall <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Wednesday, 25 April, 2001 11:27 PM Subject: RE: [SURGENER-L] Samuel Surgenor Ellis Island > I found a matching Samuel in the SSDI.
