    3. Hi Ruby, Charity Surginer is listed in the 1830 census on page 55: 1 male <5 1 female 5-10 1 female 20-20 Patience Surgenor is in the 1840 census page 224: 1 male 10-15 1 female <5 (probably Mary) 1 female 10-15 1 female 30-40 (Patience) In the 1850 Census Page 350 the listing is for: Charity Surgioner age 45 (Head) Mary age 16 In the 1850 Census page 384B: Richard Smith 65 Patience 40 Joshua 10 Sarah 14 There is a Abraham Surginer who shows up in the 1850 census on page 338: Abraham age 25 Nancy age 18 Marriages : Jacob Surjoiner married Elizabeth Beesett Aug 19, 1839 (Page 7 -Hawkins Co. marriage records 1789- 1866). Patience Surgenor married Richard Smith Jan 23, 1845 (Page 17). (Since there are 25 Olly Surginer married John Still Jan 2, 1853 ( Page 40) Mary Elizabeth Sturgeon married Samuel Winger Oct 13, 1858 ( Page 59) Mason M.Surgener married Phoebe Palmer May 10, 1861 (Page 73) Mason M Surgener married Maria Fields Nov 16, 1861 ( Page 73) The curious thing is that in the 1830 and 1850 census Charity is listed in each census as being between Thomas Barnett and Benjamin Vaughn, and in the 1840 census Patience is listed in the same place, but Charity is not listed. They could have been sisters, but where is Patience in 1840 ? I wish I could find my Jerusha Surgener who married John Jones abt 1853 in this group. I found the book in the McClung Historical Archives at the Knox County Archives building in Knoxville, Tennessee. It sounds as though Patience was either widowed or deserted but I found no reference to who her husband might have been. There were xeroxes of actual minutes for earlier dates but they were not indexed and I only had 1-1/2 hours so not enough time to go through them. Does anybody have any idea who Patience and/or her husband was? Children? I have not looked at Tennessee censuses for Surgener. Ruby
