HAWKINS COUNTY, TENNESSEE, COURT MINUTES 1830-1837 by Sallie Hayes: pg. 218: Ordered by the court that John Looney and Robert Brice be appointed to examine into the condition of PATIENCE SURGENAN and children and if necessary to make a contract to have them furnished with necessities till next court at which term they are required to report their condition. pg. 228: Ordered by the court that Robert Brice, Esq'r, be allowed the sum of $15 for provisions furnished PATIENCE SURGENER and her children and that the county trustee pay the same for which the clerk may issue a certificate and that said Brice at the next term of this court on account of the articles furnished from February court, 1837, to February court, 1838. ---------- Unfortunately, being under time pressure, I forgot to page backwards to figure out what the exact court dates were on these two cases. I found the book in the McClung Historical Archives at the Knox County Archives building in Knoxville, Tennessee. It sounds as though Patience was either widowed or deserted but I found no reference to who her husband might have been. There were xeroxes of actual minutes for earlier dates but they were not indexed and I only had 1-1/2 hours so not enough time to go through them. Does anybody have any idea who Patience and/or her husband was? Children? I have not looked at Tennessee censuses for Surgener. Ruby
