I gave Sara the SURGENER webpage address and told her I would forward her query to the mail list. Any County Antrim specialists familiar with Sara's line? Its been a while coming but I've finally gotten some updates posted to the SURGENER webpages. Thanks to Nancy Resch, new items can be found in Records abstracts AFTER 1800 webpage - http://home.rmci.net/adamewa/indexaft.htm and a new family chart for Stephen S. SURGENER on the FAMILY GROUP CHARTS webpage - http://home.rmci.net/adamewa/famgroup.htm Also, thanks to Darryl Pearce, the info is up for the headright claim for JOHN SUDGNER who might or might not be John SOJOURNER of 10 years later. Look at the first page of CHRONOLOGICAL and consider it. More to come. I hope we can soon start tossing around theories as to the earliest Johns and their wills and wives; how many were there; who were they; etc. NOTE -- IF YOU HAVE NOT POSTED YOUR SURGENER LINE OF INTEREST TO THE MAIL LIST, PLEASE DO SO, so the rest of us can see what you have, what you're doing and maybe get some lines tied together. We have some VERY helpful and hard working researchers among the mail list members. We had a surprise snow during the night. Only supposed to have a "few flakes" tomorrow morning. Got that wrong! Hope it goes away soon. Happy Holidays!! Ruby
To new members who have signed on to the SURGENER mail list in the past month or more, I hope you will post your lines to the mail list soon. Also, you can see the SURGENER webpages at: http://home.rmci.net/adamewa Ruby mail list owner
Well, its been a rough 10 days of flu and strep throat but I'm gradually getting back. Thanks to Nancy, Darryl and Billie, I have quite a bit of new info to get posted to the SURGENER webpages. I hope to start work on that pretty soon. Thanks for all your hard work and sharing! Ruby
This was forwarded to me by RootsWeb sinced it came through improper channels. If anyone knows an actual SURGENER, contact Becky personally through her email address in her message. Ah me, this one seems rather rare. It may also be a variant of Sojourner. I find John Sudgner in a headright list submitted by Theodorick Bland in Charles City Co., VA, at the county court of 4 June 1663. This was for 3,550 acres. You probably know that by this time headrights were bought and sold, so this man's passage was not necessarily paid by Bland. Besides, there is nothing to show he has any connection to your Rowland of thirty years before. (Beveley Fleet, Virginia Colonial Abstracts, (Baltimore, 1988) vol. III, p. 280, Charles City Co. Court Orders) There is a listing in the 1704 quit rents for John Sojourner with 240 acres in Isle of Wight Co. (Annie Laurie Wright Smith, The Quit Rents of Virginia, 1704 (Baltimore, 1977) 83) Swem's Historical Index lists Sojorner (Sojourner) Alice, 7W(1)237; John 29V228, 7W(1)237. These would be William & Mary Quarterly, first series, vol. 7, page 237 and Virginia Magazine of History and Biography, vol. 29, page 228. I don't have these handy, but they are in lots of libraries. I checked indexes of Nugent's Cavaliers and Pioneers, vols. 1 & 2, The Minutes of the Council of Virginia, The Journals of the House of Burgesses, Fleet's Virginia Colonial Abstracts, vols. 1 - 3, Torrence's Virginia Wills and Administrations, Swem's Historical Index, Noel Currer-Briggs, Virginia Settlers and English Adventurers, and all of Peter Coldham's series on immigrants covering the seventeenth century. I have redone the Ireland webpage. It looks okay in Netscape. Anybody out there using Explorer, would you please check to see if it is loading okay or is it overlapping the border? http://home.rmci.net/adamewa/ireland.htm Thanks, Ruby
This has been a VERY quiet list. There are a few new members so maybe its time to repost our lines. Ruby SERGENER-L mail list SERGENER webpages <http://home.rmci.net/adamewa> ---------- My line begins with: OLIVE SURGENER b. 1742-45 NC m. 26 Jan 1762 Edgecombe Co., NC d. May 1820 Crawford Co., IN PILGRIM POPE b. ca 1740's NC d. May 1790 probably VA (part that became Grayson Co.) or Wilkes Co. area of NC ---------- Olive was a daughter of (proved in father's will): ROBERT SURGENER b. m. possibly by 1728 although first mention of Catherine is 1744. d. 1778 Edgecombe Co., NC CATHERINE ?? b. d. aft 1778 Children (order not known): 1. John Surgener m1. Mary POPE; m2. Elizabeth ?? (Rev. War veteran; he went to South Carolina) 2. William Surgener (probably the William who moved parallel to sister Olive Pope to Rowan and Ashe Counties, NC, and Grayson Co., VA) 3. Benjamin Surgener (is he the Benjamin of Rev. War who went to Florida?) 4. Olive Surgener m. Pilgrim Pope 5. Hannah Surgener m. ?? Sykes/Sikes (possibly Sampson Sykes) 6. Sarah Surgener --------- Robert Surgener was a son of (proved in father's will): JOHN SURGENER/SURGINER/SOJOURNER d. Mar 1728 Isle of Wight Co., VA * This is the black hole. No mention was made of his wife, or her name, in the will which causes the problem - and John Surgener who d.1728 had TWO sons named John. At first it would appear he was the John Surginer who had a marriage contract in 1673 Isle of Wight Co., VA, to marry Alice Harris, widow of Thomas Harris. Perhaps his second marriage and he had a son named John by his first wife. However, Alice already had five children. Since Robert Surgener lived until 1778, I just cannot stretch Alice's birthing years far enough for her to have given birth to Robert and then Robert living until 1778. Either this John married again AFTER Alice OR the 1728 will and the father of Robert is actually John, possibly the SON of John who married Alice West in 1673. There is a John Sojourner/Sojernor with wife Mary in Isle of Wight Co., VA, as early as 1689. Children named in John Surginer's 1728 will: John the elder Robert (executor) John the younger Benjamin Mary Ann -----

The Scotland Censuses contributed by Claude Wrathall are up! Sorry it took so long, Claude. http://home.rmci.net/adamewa/scotcen1.htm The British Isles page has been updated to include note of these censuses pages as well as the selected Scot vitals page by Claude. Another new addition noted is the Ireland Birth and Death Index by Darryl Pearce. The home page has also been updated with links to these new entries. And last but certainly not least, the first source page of chronological format data has been updated to include the ship record sent by Darryl Pearce. I think I'm about caught up. WOW!! Thanks to Darryl and Claude, the Surgener pages are looking more important by the minute. Sincerely, Ruby
http://home.rmci.net/adamewa/indexaft.htm A bit more added to "After 1800" webpage - Loudoun Co., VA, and Newton Co., MO. Ruby
I have added some Lee Co., VA, and Hancock Co., TN, cemetery records to the webpage at: http://home.rmci.net/adamewa/indexaft.htm Ruby
I've change this page so let me know if it is viewing correctly now: http://home.rmci.net/adamewa/scottish.htm Ruby
TENNESSEANS IN THE WAR OF 1812 by Byron and Samuel Sistler 1992: SURGEONER, Abraham, Pvt, Col. Samuel Bunch, Capt. Jno Hawk, E TN Mil; discharged at Knoxville. This is likely Abraham Surgener who paid a poll tax in Grayson Co., VA, in 1810 as a white male 16 and over and 1 horse. Seems to be a strong candidate for a son of Jacob Surgener. Ruby
When looking at the Ayrshire records webpage - http://home.rmci.net/adamewa/scottish.htm one of the mail list members notified me: >I just checked the birth, marriages and death records I submitted. The births >look great! But, the marriages and death records, although readable, are one >continuous string of data. It also overlaps the left column design. Does it look this way when you are online? I am not having this problem on my browser or on three others I checked the page on - are any of the rest of you seeing a messed up page? Ruby
Some more records are up at: http://home.rmci.net/adamewa/irish.htm My old computer seems to be doing some strange things now: colors are not holding, etc., during the upload. Just blink and pretend you aren't seeing a kaliedescope page. Ruby
I have added a lot of new data to the Census webpage. Go to the SURGENER homepage and click on census. If anybody had access to the 1840 Smythe Co., VA, film, I would appreciate your copying the entry for WILLIAM SUGENER on page 406. Thanks. More to come. Ruby
