Dear SURGENER mail list readers, A few days ago I notified you that someone had forged [email protected] as a return address to send out hundreds of spams. The result is that all those made-up and failed addressed that the spam could not reach are bouncing back to my personal email address as the "owner" of the SURGENER list. I had asked RootsWeb to shut down the SURGENER mail list temporarily for a couple weeks to see if those deflections would eventually get back to the person using the return illicitly; however, RootsWeb has failed to respond to my request. So at this time I am notifying you that this morning I requested RootsWeb to put the SURGENER-L mail list up for adoption and to remove my email address from the list. Considering the lack of response in the past, I don't know how long it will take them to get my address removed - hopefully before my provider shuts down my mailbox. If any of you are interested in taking over the mail list, go to RootsWeb's listowner utilities and read their rules. I would suggest you wait a few weeks though in hopes that spam comes to a halt somewhere along the line. I have also taken the mail list link off the SURGENER webpage and added a note of explanation. Hi Listers, Recently I have had 48 email failures using the return address of "[email protected]" dumped into my box with the following subject: Subject: EXCELLENT CREDIT GUARANTEED for all AOL Memebers He was using rolling alphabetical addresses in the "B's" I guess in hopes of hitting a few actual addresses. Now this person is in the "W's" - I hope that means he's about finished. Anyway, RootsWeb is attempting to track down the perp but not sure they'll be successful. He did have a contact name, address, phone number on the emails but probably false. His purpose is unclear - whether to clog email boxes or, if he's in business, I don't know how he expects returns with so much false info on his output. Anyway, if any of you have gotten this junk through your SURGENER-L mail list, my apologies ... and have that DELETE key limbered up! Ruby

Thanks for the many responses. It seems as though I will continue to look for the daughter that came over with Mrs. LaJournier and her 3 sons. I have enjoyed viewing the many web sites that have come in. Hopefully something will turn up soon. I'd like to locate proof of the story about this Mrs. LaJournier. Hi everybody! I haven't scanned the archives yet, so I will post my data in case someone can help me. I am a descendant of the Jersey settlers of Adams Co., MS (www.djs.org). My connection is this: Mrs. LaJournier (a French Huguenot) landed in Charleston, SC mid 1700's with a daughter, sons John, Fryer and Reddick. Nothing is known of her husband. My line is through John. Soon after, they changed their surname to Sojourner, and the men moved on to MS. We have a generation missing on Reddick's line. I believe I have located his grandson in the 1820 state census. His name is also Reddick. Fryer's lines moved to LA then on to TX. John's lines stayed in Wilkinson county, MS, I believe. I found a marriage record for a Sogerner to a Pope in 1762 in Edgecombe co., SC that I believe might be the missing daughter above. Her given name is Olive. I neglected to write down his given name. Anyone with information on this couple, I would love to know about them. Anybody who knows more about this family, I would love to get in touch with you. The Sojourners migrated to MS with Rev. Swayze, Caleb King, and families.
