Jane and List, Jane, you told me about a year ago that Jesse had written a book. That gave me the information to gather more on him. The following is what I've entered in my db about him. "Following the death of Isom, Jesse worked on farms in Owen and Clay Counties in Indiana. in 1844, he moved with friends to Jo Daviess Co. IL, where he worked on farms. In 1847, after hearing his brother, Littleton L., had joined the army, he walked 26 miles to Galena IL and also joined the army; Co D 1st Reg US Infantry. He was honorably dischared at Fort Duncan in Eagle Pass TX in 1852. He settled there, working at Matson's saloon. He sold his right to a land warrant to H. Watson of NY. Later he worked as a common laborer, a border guard for the government, and as a lawman. A book was written about Jesse entitled Paso del Aguila. A copy is in the Newberry Library in Chicago, but is in the controlled area, meaning it cannot be copied. Jesse was described as 5'6" fair, complexioned, blue eyes and brown hair. He was born 21 Feb 1827 near Spencer, Owen Co IN. After discharge he lived in Maverick Co TX from 1852-1876. In 1859 he married Refugia Ramirex. They had two children: William b 1862 and Louisa. She married J.M. Zapata. Jesse divorced Refugia 6 Nov 1872 and married Virginia Refugia in 1872. He moved north to Uvalde TX for a year returing to Maverick Co until 1900. He died 1910 in Eagle Pass Maverick Co TX. Cause of death; "softening of the brain". My ancestor is Jesse's brother Littleton. I've tried to trace their father Isom and Susanna back to NC and would like to know Isom's parents. Any help is appreciated.
