I suspect that the majority of SUMPTER and SUMTER descendants on this discussion list have their roots of origins in Virginia. With this in mind, I suggest we attempt to identify all documented SUMPTER and SUMTER marriages within each shire or county in Virginia, posting them on this list and the SUMPTER GenConnect Board. Documented marriages from other state counties are also welcome. Has anyone thoroughly reviewed and abstracted the SUMPTER data (including surname variations, Sumter, Simpter, Simter, etc.) from the following publications, either book, microfilm or microfiche? If so, please consider posting the data on this list or send it to me privately (email or snail mail) and I'll post the data on your behalf.
