    1. Re: [SUMPTER] William Sumpter and Elizabeth Patience Iveson (Iverson)
    2. Jim, That makes as much sense as anything else we have tried to put together. The list of counties involving these Sumpters seems to be Caroline - Burned Hanover - Burned nothing before 1865 Goochland - In the Draper Manuscripts there is a letter dated 1872 from the Goochland County Clerk that he has thoroughly investigated their records and there is nothing on Sumpter or Sumter. Louisa County - William Sumpter's Will from the 1750's. Albemarle - Out of Louisa and Goochland in 1744. Other Counties possibly New Kent and King and Queen both burned counties. The Richard Sumpter line comes out of Henrico, Chesterfield Counties. My Henry Sumpter comes out of Cumberland and Henry Counties. If William Sumpter could be George William Sumter it leads to a different scenerio for me. The Edmond Sumpter son of William Sumpter is in Charlotte County in the 1760,s to 1790's. There is also a George Sumpter there at the same time that seems to have ties to both Edmond and Henry Sumpter (Witness on a George Sumpter deed).. Could this make George Sumpter another son of William Sumpter and Henry Sumpter, William's grandson. The can of worms opens further. Other counties needed to be looked at are Franklin and Bedford that have ties to Charlotte, Henry, and Montgomery Counties in the late 1700's. Jim Landrum
