Walt Pollock waltpat@rmi.net Sumter, Thomas or Thomas Sumpter, NC line, Lydia, R10312, sol was a son of William Sumter & was b 15 Dec 1761 or 1762 in Albermarle Co VA, Sol was a nephew of Gen'l Sumter, sol lived in Burke Co NC at enl & also srv as a sub for his father & also srv under his father Capt William Sumter, sol also srv in 1794, about 1798 or 1799 sol moved to Knox Co TN for 25 years then moved to Butler Co OH for 1 1/2 yrs then returned to Knox Co TN where he appl 6 Jul 1833, sol d 14 Jan 1845 or 15 Jan 1846 (both dates were given), sol m Lydia (--) 18 Mar 1790 in Burke Co NC & she d 26 Aug 1850 leaving children: Elizabeth Bayless, Mary Anderson, Elvira Kline & Edward Sumter who in 1852 was a res of Knox Co TN aged 41 yrs, in 1847 a John Bayless was of Knox Co TN & in 1852 an Isaac Bayless, Esq. was of Knox Co TN but no relationship to sol's daughter Elizabeth (Sumter) Bayless was stated, in 1833 a James Anderson was Judge of the Court for Knox Co TN but no relationship to sol's daughter Mary (Sumter) Anderson was stated, it was stated 3 of sol's sons had srv Gen'l Jackson at the battle of Horshoe Bend in the War of 1812, sol's & wid's children were: Jean b 18 Jan 1791, John b 29 Oct 1792, James b 17 Sep 1794, Robert b 30 Oct 1795, William b 13 Mar 1797, Betsey Ann b 16 Jan 1802, Susannah b 30 Apr 1804, Lydia b 8 Aug 1806, Mary b 2 Dec 1807 & Elvira (no birth date) Thomas, SC Line, S19115, sol was a son of Brig Gen'l Thomas Sumter who d 1 Jun 1832 leaving no widow & left as his only heir his son Col Thomas Sumter, Jr. who d in 1840 & his widow (not named) d in 1841, in 1848 surviving children were: Natalie wife of M. de Dontenoy ambassador from the Court of France to Stuttgart in Wurtemberg (this is prob Germany), Stephanie wife of M. Binda the Consul at Leghorn in Italy, Thomas of Sumter Dist SC, Pauline wife of J. Brownfield of Sumter Dist SC, Francis & Sebastian Sumter both of Sumter Dist SC, on 23 Nov 1848 the son Francis Sumter was adm'r of both his father's & his grandfather's estates & he then appl in Sumter Dist SC
