In response to an email forwarded to the Sumpter rootsweb by Beverley Sumpter, my card file has two women listed who married Eoff men in Newton Co, Arkansas: Letha age 19 married Jonathan Eoff age 20 on 1 Aug 1880 and Rachel age 17 married William Eoff age 21 on 1 Feb 1880. These records are from Newton Co Marriages by Vera Dean. According to Harold Sumpter of Turney, MO, these women were the daughters of John D. Sumpter, Sr., and his second wife Mary A. Liperd or Lawson. John D. married M.A. Liperd on 10 Oct 1867 in Newton Co, Arkansas. John D. Sumpter, Sr., was a son of Thomas and Elizabeth Coffey Sumpter of Burke Co, NC, and Wayne Co, KY. John D. was born 11 Jan 1811 in Burke Co, NC, and died about 1888 in Newton Co, Ark. John D. and his first wife, Rebecca Mullinex lived in Putnam Co, MO. John later moved to Arkansas. Harold Sumpter of Turney, MO, has researched and written two books about this line since he descends from John and Rebecca Mullinex Sumpter.
