    2. To all of those Sumpter cousins tracking back to Henry and Agnes Dillon Sumpter. >From the Cumberland County, Virginia, Deed Book 4, page 264. 23/Jan/1768. William Ferris of Cumberland County sells to Henry Sumpter of the same county, for 39 pounds current money of Virginia, 133 acres of land in Cumberland County bounded by Carter Henry Harrison, John Lynch, Simon Rowland, Absolum Ferris, and Daniel Russell. Witnesses: Joseph Palmore, John Creasey, WILLIAM DILLON, SUSANNAH DILLON, Agness Ferris. Same County Deed Book 5 Page 8. 28/Oct/1771. Henry Sumpter and wife Agge of the Parish of Southam and County of Cumberland sell the same land to Samuel Ligon, for 45 pounds. It mentions that this land is on Snowquarter Creek. No witnesses. Same County Deed Book 5 Page 383 23/Oct/1775 Elijah Ligon of Hanover County sells to Henry Sumpter the smae land back for 50 pounds. Henry was still living on the lands according to the deed. No witnesses. Same County Deed Book 5 page 478 03/May/1776 Henry Sumpter and wife Agness of Cumberland County, sell to George Carrington Jr. of the same county for consideration of several just debts and five schillings in hand the same 133 acres. Land to be resold by June 1st, 1776 the proceeds going to the debt owed by Henry Sumpter to Charles Woodson and Company, any balance going to pay a debt owed to Robert Pleasants by said Henry Sumpter, any overplus to go to Henry Sumpter. Witnesses: John Swann, Jos. Carrington, Edward Linthicum. The family must have left for Henry County, Virginia, soon after this as they start showing up in Henry County records in 1777.
