Two little tidbits for thought. A William Sumpter was listed as one of the individuals who proved a deed of gift from Eliza Flemings to John Scot and Nathal Anderson in Caroline County, Virginia, April 11, 1733. The others were Robert Fleming, Gentleman and Bartelot Anderson. Unfortunately Caroline County's eary records are burned. This is probably the General's father. A Richard Sumpter was born to George Sumpter 09/Jun/1695 in Northhampton, England. Could this be the Richard that shows up in Henrico County, Virginia in the 1730's. I know we would all like to believe that William, Richard, and George were the three brother's that came over as carpenters, butI think we need to cover alll bases. Jim Landrum Jpiccafe@aol.com
