    1. [SUMPTER-L] Mary Ann Lawson Liford Sumpter
    2. Here is the information I said I would get on Mary Ann. I hope this clears things up on her. Her line has been researched by others. This information was obtained thru Jannsue@aol.com I don't know quite what you mean by the "correct" information about Mary Ann Lawson Liford Sumpter. She was the daughter of Thomas and Mary Ann "Polly" Morgan. She was born in Claiborne or Hancock County, Tennessee. Her sister was Elizabeth Lawson who married James Evans Sumpter. She was first married in Davis County, Iowa to Jubilee Liford. She and LIford had one son. She became pregnant with John David Sumpter's child who was named Missouri Ellen Sumpter. After the birth of Missouri Ellen, John Sumper and she off from Putnam County, Mo. to Newton County, Arkansas and lived next door to Mary Ann's uncle Reuben Lawson for awhile. They lived together as common-law man and wife for about 10 years. After John and Rebecca Mullenix Sumpter obtained their divorce in Putnam; County, Mo. John finally married Mary Ann. During this time they had one child each year. After John Sumpter died, I think Mary Ann remarried to a man named Campbell, but I have not been able to prove this. This is all I know about Mary Ann Lawson Liford Sumpter. Janine.
