John D.1 Sumpter, son of Thomas Sumpter and Elizabeth Coffey #1877 was born in Burke County, NC 20 January 1811. John died abt 1885 in Newton County, AR. He married twice. He married Rebecca Mullenix in Wayne County, KY, 7 July 1829. (Rebecca Mullenix is #1878.) Rebecca was born in KY 28 June 1813. She was the daughter of Jesse "John" Mullinex and Elizabeth Wright. Rebecca died abt 1850 in Putnam County, MO. He married Mary Ann Liperd in Newton County, AR, 10 October 1867. (Mary Ann Liperd is #1879.) Mary was born in TN abt 1836. John was born on the banks of the Catawba River in Burke County, NC. When he was 18 years of age he married Rebecca Mullinex and it was with her parents that they came to Missouri in 1829 After the family had grown some, they moved to Putnam County, MO around 1838. They settled near where the County Seat, Unionville, is located today. They had ten more children after moving to Putnam County, MO. John was interested in local politics and was elected as one of three Justices of The County Court of Putnam County. He served as presiding judge for six years. After the birth of Armilda, John ran off to Newton County, AR with a young woman and raised another family of eleven children there. He was still active in local politics, serving as a member of the County Court and Justice of the Peace for 17 years. John D. Sumpter and Rebecca Mullenix had the following children: + 2 i.
