Recently in a listing of Roster of Confederate Soldiers edited by Janet B. Hewett, a Fielding and a Fielden Sumpter were listed from Missouri. Following is a list of Fielding/Fieldens which I have in my card file. 1. Fielding b 1769 VA, d 1850-60 MO son of Capt William and Judith Randall Sumpter. This man married Sarah (Sally) last name unknown. Dead before the Civil War. 2. Fielden b 1834 KY, d 14 Jan 1879 Macon Co, MO. Son of John and Mary Patrick Sumpter. Believed to have married Barbara Ellen Hughes 3 Aug 1856 Schuyler Co, MO. Also married Emily Heifner 18 May 1858 Randolph Co, MO. Data from Dr. Ward Sumpter files, Jim Greytak files, LDS 1984 update. Fielden is buried in the Mt. Salem Cemetery, Macon Co, MO. 3. Fielding b 1844 MO son of James and Abby ? Sumpter. Believed to have married Selesta Busell 2 May 1867 Randolph Co, MO. He is in the 1850 Federal Census with James and Abby and his marriage is listed on the LDS 1984 update. 4. Fielding S. b July 1846 Monroe Co MO, son of William and Jane Rice Sumpter. Married Cynthia A. Black 25 Aug 1880 Livingston Co, MO. Data from Dr. Ward Sumpter files, Mrs. Bob Sumpter, 1900 Soundex Census of Livingston Co, MO and the LDS 1988 marriage record. 5. Fielding b 1833 TN son of Josiah and Lucinda ? Sampter. This record was found on the 1850 Cocke Co, TN Federal Census and it is not know if this is really Sampter, Sumpter or Sampler.
