    3. Pearley Sumpter was the son of Eli W. Sumpter, and was my great grandfather. Pearley and his wife Gladys are buried in Cincinnati, Appanoose county, Iowa. (Centerville, IA.) The Iowegian, Monday, November 18, 1974 Sumpter is still missing At noon today, according to the Sherrif's office, Pearlie Sumpter, Exline resident who disappeared Friday, had not been located. Sumpter, 75, is said to have been last seen Friday afternoon at the 34 Club. He was wearing a brown jacket and red hat. Anyone knowing the whereabouts of Sumpter is asked to contact Appanoose Sheriff's office (Centerville, IA.) The Iowegian, Tuesday, November 19, 1974 Find Body of Pearlie Sumpter Pearlie Sumpter, 75, Exline resident, who had been missing since last Friday, was found dead in a bean field near the No. 30 corner south of Centerville in the vicinity back of Richard's Auto shop. Sheriff Montelle Morrow stated Tuesday that aircraft was used in the search and the body was spotted about 2:30 p.m. Monday. There was no evidence of foul play. Pearlie Lee Sumpter, 75, a retired coal miner and lifelong resident of the area who resided in Exline, died Friday, November 15, 1974, south of Centerville. He was born September 30, 1899, in Putnam County Missouri, the son of Eli W. and Armadia B. Butler Sumpter. He united in marriage with Gladys Young in 1922. She preceded him in death December 3, 1958. Also preceding him were his parents, a brother, Dwain Sumpter, a sister, Ellen Cowan. Surviving are five sons, Lugene, Los Angeles, Robert, Moulton, Doyle, Centerville, Lloyd, Phoenix, Chester, Ft. Madison; three daughters, Mrs. Juanita Spencer, Kenosha Wisc., Mrs. Caroline Morrett, Alta Loma, Calif., Mrs. Fairie Lathrop, Ottumwa; 26 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, one brother, Eli Sumpter, Newton; five sisters, Mrs. Alpha Cline, Exline, Mrs. Daisy Ramsey, Davenport, Mrs. Edith Wages, Cincinnati, Mrs. Lucille Maletta, E. Moline, Mrs. Ruby Besse, E. Moline. Funeral services will be held Thursday at 1:30 p.m. from Miller-Wehrle Funeral Home with Rev. Jerry Thomas officiating. Burial will be in Pleasant Hill cemetary in Cincinnati. The family will be at the funeral home Wednesday evening from 7 to 8. The casket will not be opened.
