James E. A. Sumpter was the son of John D. Sumpter Sr. and Rebecca Mullinix. Unionville, MO Newspaper, 2 Sep 1914 Sumpter James Sumpter, age 81 years, was called away Friday at 6:00 o'clock p.m., August 21, 1914. He was one of the early settlers of this county, and is well known throughout the community. At the time of his death, he was visiting with his sister, Mrs. Thomas Cain. His death was caused by a stroke of paralysis which struck him Sunday, the 16th. He leaves to mourn his departure, six children, four boys and two girls, John and Arlie the only ones being at his bedside at the time of his death. He also has six brothers and four sisters, all of whom are dead but one brother and three sisters. The remains were laid to rest in the Hurley cemetary, Saturday. By his request the funeral was conducted by Rev. Laban Mc Farland.
