Does anyone have information on the Henry Sumpter,Sr. d ca 1817 in Mulberry Gap, Claiborne/Hancock Co. TN? I am trying to prove that he had daugher Nancy b ca 1781 VA (probably Henry Co. VA) that married John Baker Sr. also of Mulberry Gap. I have heard from one researcher of the Henry Co. VA Sumpter family...but no proof about Nancy. IRVIN SUMPTER of Oglesby,Okla. who dodged the Germans and worked and fought with the underground for eight months before and after D-Day, and before he was taken prisoner, has been released from a German prison camp, Stalag Luft IV near the Baltic Sea. His parents: Mr. LEWIS CASPER SUMPTER and MRS. SENA HULA( WOODARD) SUMPTER (wife of L.C.) of Oglesby were informed by the war department of his release. He became a prisoner August 8, 1944, nearly eight months after the bomber on which he was serving as a tail gunner was shot down over the Breman Navy Yards, Germany on Dec. 22, 1943. He was approached by members of the underground and was taken to Brussels, Belgium and was hidden in the home of a family," PREVOST". The mother of this family is listed as being 58 years old and having two daughters, TONI PREVOST AND MEME GERMAINE PREVOST. They sent a card, dated, April 7, 1945. At the time the PREVOST family was taking care of Irvin sumpter, his brother EARL SUMPTER was serving with an ordnance repair unit in Italy. AfterD-Day Earl went to France and later to Brussels to thank the Prevosts. This SUMPTER family has another son, DEARLE SUMPTER, of the Navy, who has completed three campaigns with three battle scars. He has been released from Norfolk, VA. Hospital, where he has just undergone an emergency appendectomy. On his return to the Pacific front, he will instruct soldiers how to recognize various types of Japanese aircraft."

Doris Evelyn FEUERS , daughter of Ben FEUERS, will marry, Theodore OGAN JR. of Greensburg, son of Mr. and Mrs. Theo dore Ogan, Marshfield, Wisconsin. The wedding will be june 25.( NO YEAR GIVEN) The groom is the grandson of James (JIM) GULLETT and Belle F.(SUMPTER) Gullett. His mother was Delva Mae (Gullett )Ogan His father , "Ted" is still living. (note: Theodore is known as "Corkey" Ogan. He and his wife live now in Montana.)

Hello, My gg grandfather was Edward Paulser Parsons. He died in April of 1906 and left a widow, Sarah Parsons (his #2 wife). I found record of her next marriage and it was to Jacob F. SUMPTER of Roane Co. WV. They were married Oct 2, 1909 in Calhoun Co, WV. They were listed as widow/widower. He was 54 and she 40. It also states that he was born in Monroe Co, WV. John and the babies and a mule made it to land and walked for two days and were rescued by a colored family living in a soddy house.
