    1. [SUITE] SUITE notes from very early in VA
    2. VIRGINIA COLONIAL ABSTRACTS, v.24, York County, 1633-1646 William SUITE, p.30, (From Record Book 2, No. 2, p.47) "Order that William SUITE pay debt of 700 lb. tobo (tobacco) to George BEECH. (1645). " -- (Bonnie's thoughts): The date is 1645, so William SUITE had to have been born prior to 1625 at the latest. -- Also, William SUITE, p. 35 (same book as above); orig. source (Assumed also from Record Book 2, cited as No. 2, p.52) "Richard FORDE is arrested out of suit of William SUITE and not appearing is 'ordered ut sup'" -- (Bonnie's note: what does "ut sup" mean? need to look it up.) -- Under the above listing about William SUITE & Robert FORDE, we see a note saying: FORD was murdered soon after 1700 in King William Co. VA (present day) but at that time was King and Queen Co. then. --- Page 71 in same book as above, (Orig. from No. 2 p.101): "William Suite was arrested to answer suit of John Dawson and does not appear himself or by attorney. The name Elias WIGMORE appears on the entry, which is so far destroyed that it is impossible to mak sense of it. Says Wigmore is to be paid for something (?)"

    1. [SUITE] CORRECTION--I mixed up the 2 men--Samuel F. Perkins of DC vs. Peter Perkins of NC to Todd Co. KY
    2. CORRECTION-- I was wrong-- it was actually "Peter" PERKINS (NOT Samuel F. Perkins) who married Martha SUIT d/o Solomon who lived in Todd Co. KY in 1850. Sorry. I incorrectly had confused 2 different Perkins men who BOTH married women named Martha Suit: I accidentally confused Samuel F. Perkins and Peter Perkins & mixed them up in my notes- because BOTH married women named Martha Suit. I apologize. *The Martha Suit who m. Samuel Perkins was d/o John LITTLE SUIT. *The Martha Suit who m. Peter Perkins was d/o Solomon SUIT. Thanks to Pat Suit Gray (thanks!) for pointing out something wasn't quite right:) It was a completely DIFFERENT Martha SUIT who was d/o John Little SUIT (prob. s/o John Dent Suite)pf DC who married "Samuel F." PERKINS and lived in DC. This Samuel F. Perkins was s/o Samuel B. Perkins. HOWEVER-- I think they are all possibly the same family lines as in 1850 Todd Co. KY== For example, we see CLAGETT, SHEMWELL, SUET/SUIT, PERKINS, EDWARDS, CLARK, etc. in Todd Co. KY in 1850--who may all connect back to St. Mary's Co. MD. I also feel that it may actually be correct (after all) about John Dent Suit being father of those 3 Caswell Co.NC men. However, conversely, we also do know that John Dent Suite's brother Benjamin SUIT was indeed in CASWELL Co. NC in 1803. He was recorded at an estate sale for Thomas Langley. John Dent SUITE d. ca. 1795 in St. Mary's Co. MD so he was already deceased when Benjamin went to Caswell Co. NC. But now that I have found both of the Perkins marriages t SUIT it makes me want to find out more about BOTH--since both married SUIT--and helps me lean toward the belief that John Dent Suit was possibly their father instead of Benjamin as I had previously believed. Surely, more research is warranted. Also, I don't recall if any of the 3 SUIT men who were in Caswell NC had named sons Benjamin. But we know that John Little SUIT did and he was also prob. a son of John Dent Suite. Sorry for the mix-up. But maybe the Perkins relationships for BOTH women named Martha SUIT are a clue after all. QUESTION-- Was Peter Perkins b/ MC related to Samuel B. Perkins who was b. DC NOTE: here is the link to this census and you will see the MD names. http://www.usgennet.org/usa/ky/county/todd/census/1850Dist2.txt Anyway-- We can see Peter Perkins was b. NC & Martha SUIT was b. VA. SOLOMON SUIT was born in SC!!! So my notes were incorrect. Again, I apologize. **BUT that also means that the WILLIAM SUIT in 1790 Orangeburg SC federal census is probably the SAME MAN who married Rebecca WILSON since Solomon was b. ca. 1791!! Perhaps that lingering question may now be answered by this census. I am trying hard to piece this puzzle together but so many pieces are missing or lost. Here is the excerpt from the 1850 Todd Co. KY census in case it can help other researchers. We do know that Solomon was b. ca. 1791 and son of William SUIT (who lived in Caswell Co NC) and married to Rebecca Wilson. He d. 1833-1835 in Sumner Co. 1. [SUITE] UPDATE: John Dent Suite and his brother Benjamin SUIT/SUITE of St. Mary's Co. MD
    2. UPDATE- The 3 SUIT in Caswell NC were prob. NEPHEWS of BENJAMIN and not his sons-- prob. instead were sons of John DENT SUITE who d. 1795 in MD.* Please let me know if anyone has further information on these folks: I have been beginning to put some of the "tree" on ancestry.com as best as I can from the current information. I found a most interesting thing though. The William SUIT who married Rebecca Wilson (who I thought was s/o Benjamin) in Caswell Co. NC may ACTUALLY be son of John DENT SUIT who d. 1795 in St. Mary's Co. MD and not of Benjamin. Same with Enos SUIT who was in Caswell Co. NC 1790 as well as the John SUITE who marry Sally BOWLES. I say this due to the discovery that Solomon SUIT who was son of William SUIT who m. Rebecca WILSON in Caswell Co NC and then moved after 1800 to Sumner Co. TN is DEFINITELY CONNECTED TO "John LITTLE SUIT" of Washington DC!!! i am fairly sure that John LITTLE SUIT was most probably the s/o John DENT SUIT who d. 1795 but never knew his dad because his mom (Mary LITTLE?) was pregnant with him when John DENT SUIT died in 1795. John LITTLE SUIT was b. 11 Oct 1795 in PA (per son on 1910 cens.) but lived @ Christ Church area in DC. I DO NOT know who their mother was (ie. John DENT SUITE';s 1st wife) -- prob. not Mary LITTLE (?) but prob. a 1st wife. John DENT SUIT did not name any children in his will but DUE TO CIRCUMSTANTIAL EVIDENCE- it seems the 3 in Caswell NC in the 1780's may have actually been HIS as opposed to Benjamin's as I had previously believed since Benjamin SUIT of St. Mary's Co. MD DID. Last night I was entering Solomon Suit's information when I noticed that his daughter Martha married Samuel F. Perkins and they lived in WASHINGTON DC. BUT they were ALSO in the 1850 census for Todd Co KY and SOLOMON SUITE WAS LIVING WITH THEM! They were ALSO in the 1850 census for WASHINGTON DC! But NO SOLOMON. He apparently died in 1850 and they went back t DC/MD. John LITTLE SUIT must've been a baby brother of the William SUIT who married Rebecca WILSON-- from John DENT SUIT's 2nd marriage to Mary LITTLE(?)> (So, John LITTLE SUIT was actually UNCLE of Solomon SUIT even though he was about the same age!) & most interesting. This makes sense. In 1910, Henry C (B?) SUIT was living with a Kimball and PERKINS family in DC and he stated his FATHER was born in PA (John LITTLE SUIT). Mary LITTLE, prob. 2nd wife of John DENT SUITE was probably d/o Peter LITTLE whose name was actually KLEIN but he changed it to LITTLE. The LITTLE family was from PA. Peter LITTLE, Jr. apprently moved from PA to St. Mary's Co. MD and was in the will of John DENT SUIT. I believe his sister was Mary LITTLE who married John DENT SUIT (only circumstantial evidence right now--need more proof.) Peter Little found in: 1790 US CENSUS-- ST. MARY'S CO MD, ROLL M637_3, p.108, Image 0569 Township: Unknown Township John DENT SUITE d. in St. Mary's Co. MD: Bet. 1792 - 05 May 1795-- here is some of his information that I found on Mike Marshall's Charles Co. MD website previously: Quoted: Apr. 24, 1795 - The St. Mary's County, Md. will of John Dent Suit, probated May 5, 1795, leaves everything to wife (unnamed). No executors or witnesses specified. "Note: Orphan's Court, April Term, 1795. Thomas Suit made oath that the paper submitted was in the writing of John Dent Suit. It was accepted as his will." Source: Reno, Linda D., "St. Mary's County, Maryland Wills, 1791-1802," p. 59. May 1795 - "Paper supporting to be the will of John Dent Suit late of St. Mary's County, deceased, signed by the said deceased, but without any witnesses thereto; Thomas Dent Suit proves the said paper to be the handwriting of the said deceased whereupon the court determines that the said paper be deemed and taken as the will of the said deceased -And further ordered that Letters of administration be granted to Peter Little on the estate of the said deceased." Source: Fenwick, Charles E., Sr., "Proceedings of the Orphan's Court of St. Mary's County, Maryland, 1777-1801," pp. 109-110. ----------- Washington DC SUIT/PERKISN- Connections. 1. Henry C/B SUIT, s/o John LITTLE SUIT living with Perkins. 2. Samuel F. PERKINS and wife, Martha SUIT lived in DC after KY. Samuel F. Perkins was FROM Maryland *per census! (I guess they didn't like KY) as they were back in MD/DC in 1850 and Solomon no longer lived with them. (**Update: I now believe this particular MARTHA Suit was NOT d/o John LITTLE SUIT! But was d/o SOL. SUIT, s/o Wm. who was s/o John DENT SUIT (Possibly not his brother Benjamin as I previously believed)--he lived with them 1850 briefly in Todd Co. KY) 3.Solomon Suit had a brother named Bartlett Suit who had also lived in Caswell Co. NC when born but moved to Sumner Co. TN. Barlett had a daughter named Mary Jane Suit who married a man named George W. Little. Was this guy from the same PA "Little" family as Mary and Peter? He was prob. born bef. 1839. Need more info. 4. A man named Benjamin SUITE is buried in Congressional Cemetery in Washington DC. 14 Dec 1892. Also buried there are Samuel PERKINS and Mary SUITE. **HE CANNOT BE BE3NJAMIN B. SUIT who was s/o John LITTLE SUIT as that Benjamin supposedly did not die until 03 Apr 1903 but he is also buried there. Benjamin's grave and perhaps the others GRAVES WERE MOVED from East Methodist Cemetery in DC and re-buried in Congressional. 5. Samuel F. Perkins was son of Samuel B. Perkins of MARYLAND. 6. Solomon "Sol" Suit was s/o William. He was b.ca. 1791. He did live with Samuel F. Perkins and wife Martha Perkins in Todd Co. KY 1850. 1850 census for Todd Co KY, "Solomon Suet" Dist. 2-- State: Kentucky Roll: M432_219 p.255, image 375.

    3. Hello. I need help finding the baptism record for James SUIT or SUITE who was baptized in St. Mary's Co. MD on 28 Jun 1765. It may have also been in Charles Co.?? Due to the ages on the census records vs. the baptism date-- this could answer many questions about James SUIT. I need the church name, parents and godparents/sponsors & source. I would truly appreciate it if anyone has this information. Sincerely, Bonnie Treon [email protected]

Edw.Young, New Hanover NC 09 Aug 1779?I am extremely curius who she was as Bath Co. is where Gyles SHUTE and Philip SHUTE lived.RE:I found the following on Wikipedia.com:The county was formed in 1729 as New Hanover Precinct of Bath County, from Craven Precinct. It was named for the House of Hanover, which was then ruling Great Britain. In 1734 parts of New Hanover Precinct became Bladen Precinct and Onslow Precinct. With the abolition of Bath County in 1739, all of its constituent precincts became counties.

    3. RE: Here is an excerpt of an old posting I had put on genforum in relation to the will of Henry SUIT who d. 1810 in Warren CO. NC. It was in repsonse to a query about a Mozelle SUIT and James ELLIS from Orange & Granville counties of NC: (At that time I had just received the)"...will of Henry SUIT from Warren Co NC. (1-31-1810). It really doesn't say much--I think he was pretty old as he didn't know which of his children were still living--perhaps they had all moved away?? His wife at death was "Polley" and he names William BURROUGHS nd JOhn Corthan and Refis or Ress (Hard to read) MABRY executors. It is wintessed by James ELLIS and John WATKINS. I can't read the word next to the last 2 names, but looks like "jurist"??? The will was possibly written by someone else as Hnry Suit signed with his "mark". I got the will from the NC Archives. Sadly, he did not mention the names of any of his children. Apparently William BURROUGHS had at least 2 children who married "Watkins" in Warren Co NC. The surname "Burroughs" connects to "Suit" in St. Mary's Co MD."------ I am sure Henry was s/o Dent, I, and bro. of Benjamin and is in estae of Mary Bright who was in Thomas SUITE, I, of St. Mary's Co.'s will.------ But this finding is now much MORE SIGNIFICANT because now we know that Nancy ELLIS was the wife of Ralph SUIT and she was Wid. WETHRINGTON.------ B.Treon, [email protected]

    2. I looked up others who were in his militia. I think he lived in Hawkins Co. TN in 1794 (in militia) and is INCORRECTLYlisted as "Alexander SMITH" on the tax list in my opinion. Maybe this can help someone. RE: THE LIST OF TAX PAYERS OF HAWKINS COUNTY FOR THE YEAR 1792

    2. RE-- CORRECTION: Robert WEEKS was the SON OF Henry WEEKS who died testate and HENRY was the one who noted in his will--that since his son Robert (Ezekiel's father) was already deceased, Robert's son, Ezekiel WEEKS gets an inheritance from him. Ezekiel WEEKS was the father of Elizabeth WEEKS. Henry WEEKS was Ezekiel WEEKS' grandfather and great=grandfather to Elizabeth WEEKS ADAMS, wife of Willoughby ADAMS. Sorry. 1. [SUITE] (no subject)
    2. SUIT/SUITE IN MD & NC: RE: SUIT STUFF & WILLOUGHBY ADAMS wife's heritage-- There has to be a major link with Willoughby ADAMS and Benjamin SUIT's family for both families to have descendants named William RILEY SUIT & William RILEY ADAMS. Then, 2 of Willoughby ADAMS daughters married 2 sons of Thomas DAVIS and then one of Thomas DAVIS' other sons, Ezekiel "Zekiel" DAVIS moved to Champaign Co. OH with JAMES SUITE (the older man who was BROTHER of Benjamin and brother of Ann SUIT NEAL wife of Charles NEAL. Ann's son also went to Champaign CO OH after 1801 and the location was "Adams Twp." --- New finds: Found out that Willoughby ADAMS' wife, Elizabeth WEEKS was d/o Ezekiel WEEKS and Deliverance SHAW. (We already knew some of this from genforum.com postings)-- BUT-- Found out Ezekiel was from Oyster Bay, Long Island, NY. He was the son of Robert WEEKS Bet. 23 Mar - 25 Oct 1743/44 (will) and noted that since his son Robert was deceased, Robert's son, Ezekiel gets inheritance from him. I know this is the correct family as Robert WEEKS' sister was named FREELOVE. And Ezekiel WEEKS had a daughter also named Freelove and that is just your typical everyday name in NC in 1700. Actually, Robert's sister, Freelove married a man named Richard POWELL and after Freelove died, Richard POWELL married Freelove WEEKS POWELL'S brother Robert's widow, Jerusha LEWIS (who was probably Ezekiel WEEKS of NC's mother.) There is a link on genealogy.com that states Ezekiel WEEKS did not come into the province (Bath, NC) until 1717. I thought that was interesting. I don't know if Elizabeth WEEKS who married Willoughby ADAMS was born in NY or NC. Not sure. BUT THEY WERE QUAKERS. I did not know this. That explains how Philip SHUTE (they were Quakers) witnessed his will). I think they left the Quaker religion once in NC, but not sure. I am finding more and more to connect SUITE/SUIT to SHUTE. I am fairly sure now that we are the same family and connected to WITHRINGTON aka WETHERINGTON (all spellings.) I found this on Mike Marshall's site: John WITHRINGTON Bought a church pew w/ William SUITE & Thomas WILLIAMS in 1769: "Mar. 1769 - John Withrington, William Suit and Thomas Williams purchased pew no. 12 at All Faith's Parish Church, St. Mary's County, Md. Source: Maryland Historical Magazine, Vol. 31, No. 1, March 1936, p. 28." His link is: http://wc.rootsweb.ancestry.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?op=GET&db=mrmarsha&id=I59096 CLUE?? *How would this WITHRINGTON gentleman possibly connect to Nancy WEATHERINGTON/WETHERINGTON who married Ralph SUIT? Then, we know from census records that this surname is found close to my James SUIT in census records in St. Mary's Co. MD. I am not sure who Thomas Williams was. I don't show a Thomas Williams as a brother of Elizabeth WILLIAMS who married Nathaniel SUIT, I. My thoughts: Thomas SUITE who married Christian DENT was NOT son of Elizabeth WILLIAMS. He was older than she was! That needs to be corrected. He may have actually be SHUTE. There were men named SUITE in Yorktown in the 1630's and 1640's who seem to have vanished after that time. I was in York Town about 2 weeks ago, but didn't get a chance to see if there was a library there. I will next time I go. If related to Nathaniel SUITE and Elizabeth WILLIAMS, Thomas SUITE who married Christian DENT was brother of Nathaniel, I, NOT brother of Nathaniel, II due to his age (my opinion). Also-- AGAIN-- no one named "NATHANIEL" seems to be found found anywhere in the line of Thomas SUITE who married Christian DENT so far as I know. *Is it just me--or isn't that a little weird if they really were brothers? Something just seems wrong. Nathaniel SUITE, I, DID have a son named Thomas SUIT who is a DIFFERENT MAN who was probably named for Elizabeth WILLIAMS' father. I think that he is NOT the same man as the Thomas SUITE who m. Christian DENT, but rather a younger man who was son of Elizabeth WILLIAMS who was YOUNGER than the Thomas SUITE who married Christian DENT--so it was impossible for him to be her son!

    2. http://www.dhr.virginia.gov/registers/Counties/Wythe/098-0214_Raven_Cliff_Furnace_Nomination.pdf This is a link about the "Kincannon" Iron Works that Ralph worked at in the 1813 tax list there. Scroll down where it says "History" and it is interesting. It is some type of application for historical preservationbut discusses the place and says it was owned by a Joseph BELL & Andrew KINCANNON,

    1. [SUITE] Ralph SUIT, no. 1, info.
    2. When I was recently visiting in the VA Beach area I went to really large library there and it had some great genealogy information. There are a set of books called the Magazine of Virginia Genealogy and they had good stuff on several families I am tracing. I found the following about Ralph SUIT, No. 1 (the one who m. Nancy Weatherington.) Magazine of Virginia Genealogy Vol. 46 No. 1-4, 2008, p. 34: Ralpph SUIT(?) at Kin cannon's (Kincannon's) Iron Works, Washington Co., VA, Personal Tax List, 1813. * This has to be Ralph Suit, Sr. because Ralph, Jr. wasn't born til 1815.

    1. [SUITE] ALEXANDER & PLEASANT SUIT, I think sons of Benjamin--see notes:
    2. Bonnie TREON 2011-08-22 23:07:08 Benjamin SUIT was Alexander's father. Alexander had to be born prior to 1764 due to his marriage date. From the entries below, we know for sure he was still living in 1794 and I am fairly sure he was father of Alexander L. Suit who was b 1799 and lived in TN. Mildred could NOT be Alexander's mother. She was younger than he was. Her grave shows she was born 18 May 1770 & d. at age 92. It is impossible for her to be the mother of most of Benjamin's children! I also found this at that nice library in VA Beach: INDEX TO VOLUNTEER SOLDIERS 1784-1811 by WHITE, p.653. *(It is a plain dark green HC) SUIT, Alexander, Pvt, McGaughey's Co. Knox City Regt. Hamilton Dist. Militia, Terr. So. of the OHIO, 1792-1794. (From Bonnie: *So we know he was still living in 1794. I think he was father of Alexander L. Suite, b. 02 Feb 1799 who m. Sarah Stout and Abigail Pike in TN.) Then, I also found this from the ame source as above: SUIT, Alexander, Pvt., Henderson's Co., Ore's Regt. Mil. South of the OHIO, 1794. And finally, on the same source, a man named Pleasant SUIT was also listed who I am fairly sure is another son of Benajamin Suit, thus brother of my James and Alexander, etc. \ Pleasant Suit's wife is buried in Blandford Cem. in Petersburg where some of my other relatives are. Not listed on findagrave.com, but is listed in Church Archives. The following entry is also from the same source as above: SUIT, Pleasant., Sgt., 1st Batt., 19th Regt. VA. Militia (Maj. John Ambler), 1807. (From Bonnie: This prob. means Pleasant SUIT was b. bef. 1787. He m. Catherine M. LeMoine 10 Oct 1811 in Petersburg, VA. They had 2 known children, Virginia R. SUIT, b.ca. 1812 in Petersburg, VA who m. Robt. Atkinson; and Lemoine Suit who was b.ca. 1822 in MD and living in St. Louis, MO and working as a clerk in 1850. I am sure Margaret Suit Gober was their sister. Her husband's family is connected to the same people that Pleasant's daughter married. That explains how both she and Victoria Suite named daughter's Orpha. The GOBER's went to the same place in GA as Orpha CARNES. Here is the burial info. for the wife of Pleasant SUIT. (He also wrote books on farming & slavery that are still found today.) Here is his wife's info: http://lvaimage.lib.va.us/cgi-bin/drawerIII/disk8/CC/BA/034/S0461?57 Petersburg Will Book 6, page 2, Will of Catherine M.L. Suit She is listed in Manual for Members-- Presbyterian Church in Petersburg, VA, No.267 Blandord Interment Records (1848-1871) pg 507. Bur. 12-24-1871 age 79, d. of old age.
