    3. Folks, Every week or so (or whenever the digest gets to about 20 KB), I'm forwarding to the List those posts that have been "gatewayed" from RootsWeb's SUFFOLK Board that might contain information of interest to List subscribers, and here's the current "digest" of such gatewayed posts. If you wish to respond to any of these gatewayed posts, please do so by clicking on the relevant "Message Board URL:" link and NOT by responding either to the list OR to my address as the digest poster. Board posters will not see your List response unless they are also subscribed to the List, and most are not. PLEASE also be careful about responding to any post and inadvertently re-posting the ENTIRE digest to the list! More information on RootsWeb's Boards can be found in the FAQs at: http://www.RootsWeb.ancestry.com/ , where you will also find a link to the Boards' "home page". If you have any questions about the Boards or what the following is, pls contact me off-list at: mailto:[email protected] . Author: hoffm3 Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.britisles.england.sfk.general/2227.3.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: I haven't worked on this family for many years. My research consisted mostly of church records for the various parishes in England. There were many areas to search as I recall and no definitive way to prove the lineage when going back just so far. Also, you would need to check the LDS microfilm catalogue to find out what films are available. Or write to the area of interest in England. Some other reasons you might not find anything before 1580 would be the plague that took so many lives. Or a name change or variation if a family actually moved from another area. For instance, many French Hugenots moved to England and their surname was changed. -------------------------------------------------- Re: Help please! Frank Clarke d. 1980 Ipswich aged about 87. Married to Ethel A. FARROW in March 1935 at Woodbridge. Married to Peggy M. SKERRITT in Mar 1952 at IPSWICH. The Frank Clark is probably the one shown as b.1916 and d. 1979 - so that is probably not your man if he was 80. But this Frank G. was married twice. Good luck. -------------------------------------------------- Re: Help please! Frank Clarke d. 1980 Ipswich aged about 87. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Does anyone know where I can get a birth certificate for her or details about her parents? She is my greatx4 grandmother. Thanks. -------------------------------------------------- Re: Lydia Newson (Lydia Balls) from Middleton 1797 This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Author: Robesure Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.britisles.england.sfk.general/8818.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Birth Certificates were not issued until the start of registration which was in 1837. What you need to trace is a baptism, providing one took place, in a Parish Register or a non conformist church or chapel if her parents were not Church of England. This should give her parents names and sometimes a date of birth. If as you say she came from Middleton then that is the place to start, if not try other surrounding parishes. Middleton registers do not seem to have been extracted onto the IGI and I cannot see them free online. Someone may answer who has a copy or a transcript of them, though the originals will probably be held and available to view, by the Suffolk Records Office either at Ipswich or Lowestoft. I suggest that you contact the Suffolk Family History Society who may have transcripts for sale or alternatively may have a member who is searching the same family. Looking at their site I can see that they have a number of members posting an interest in the Newsome family, although none specifically quote Middleton they do include nearby parishes. Go to http://www.suffolkfhs.co.uk/ -------------------------------------------------- Re: Willingham This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Author: Robesure Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.britisles.england.sfk.general/8816.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: As there are no records of Thomas Willingham or Amye in West Stow prior to the baptism of son Thomas then we must assume that they both came from other parishes. These may be nearby parishes but could in fact be anywhere. All you can do is obtain copies or transcripts of Parish Registers or visit the Suffolk Record Office in Bury St Edmunds to see if you can trace a possible marriage and susequently baptisms. There were no proofs of birth available prior to general registration which began in 1837. I have transcriptions for the nearby parishes of Wordwell and Ingham and I cannot see a marriage or any Willingham baptisms at either, other nearby parishes are Culford, Lackford, Flempton Hengrave, Fornham, Brockley and you could include any of the parishes in the Thingoe district or Bury St Edmunds area. You could also contact the Suffolk FHS at http://www.suffolkfhs.co.uk/ to see if any of their members have interests in the Willingham family. -------------------------------------------------- Re: Willingham This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list.
