    1. [SFK-UK] re Marriage Licence of Thomas Shekleton HENRY
    2. Lis Warwood
    3. I am wondering whether any one is planning to visit the Suffolk Record Office in Bury St Edmunds in the near future who might be willing to help me with the details of a Marriage Licence record. The National Archives suggest that the Great Waldingfield Parish Records are held there and that F.L. 514/4/15 of those records contains the details of the Marriage Licence of Thomas Shekleton HENRY of Great Waldingfield, widower and Lilian Grace EMBERY widow of Great Waldingfield, 30 Jan 1933. I have ordered the Marriage Certificate (Mar Q 1933 Sudbury 4a 1209) but am hoping that the Marriage Licence may have further information. I especially want to try and establish T. S. Henry's parents, place of birth and where he trained as an architect, if possible. I believe he was born between 1864 and 1867. In 1894, he was residing in Sydney, NSW, Australia. By 1903 he was residing in Melbourne and continued to live there until 1914. He was apparently born plain Thomas HENRY, though always used the 'Shekleton name while in Australia. He was an architect and an artist. In 1914 he travelled by ship to the UK, and in 1919 changed his name by Deed Poll to Thomas Shekleton HENRY, describing himself as "a natural-born British Subject." Thomas S. HENRY died 6 July 1934 in Dedham, Essex, though his usual residence at that time was 'The Heath, Great Waldingfield, Suffolk. He does not appear to have been born in NSW, and given he claimed to be an Associate of the Royal Institute of British Architects (A.R.I.B.A.) may have been born in England or Ireland. I did write to the R.I.B.A. but got no response. I would very much appreciate any assistance someone might be willing to give. I tried to figure out how to obtain the Marriage Licence Record myself but don't seem able to work out how to do that or what charge might be involved. As I live in Australia I cannot visit the Suffolk Records Office myself. Lis South Australia
