I have been asked by an old friend to find out if there was ever a career path for nannies and nurses in the 1950s. It may be that a young person who was a nanny, then a hospital ward maid and then when old enough began nurse training was following a well known progression through the professions. It may be of course that there was no particular official training sequence but if anyone knows about such things in this era, it would be helpful. Brian Sillett
